I just got this remote second hand, but new in the box. I was messing around and I did exactly what the manual tells me not to do...I was trying to delete a device I had added using the delete function, but I neglected to refresh my memory on how to do it. As a result, I accidentally deleted the right hard key just below the touch screen. Now the proper options to delete a device do not appear (one of them is assigned to that button) and I can't use the "ahead" browser function (also assigned to that button). I downloaded the Touch Screen Setup program and updated my firmware, but that didn't fix it. I called Marantz, and they simply explained to me that it would take 8 hours to teach me how to reprogram that button manually using the software, and they didn't have time to do that. They told me I should have bought some software for it from the dealer. What can I do? Can someone walk me through how to do this, or recommend some software that is user friendly that would fix it? I guess I don't mind re-doing all my remote training, or changing the look of the touchscreen using aftermarket software if this will fix it. Thanks from a newbie.

Check the back of the owenrs manuel, there is software that comes with the Rc 5200 that reverts or sets the remote back to the original factory settings. You must of course hook up the remote to your pc via the serial cable. Let me know what happens

Thanks. After some further trial and error, here's what I found: There is a revert function in the remote itself, that does not require hook up to a PC. I reverted, which restored the hard key, but deleted all my data. Anticipating this, I backed up my data first to a PC. Then, I backed up the reverted version with the hard key restored to a different backup file. Then, I merged the two, deleted all of the extraneous devices that were in the old version of the system (the remote comes preprogramed with many Marantz devices including the IR codes), and voila! I also figured out that by using the Touchscreen Setup software, I could assign the Marantz on/off function to one of the buttons in my power group (I was unable to do this before because I don't have the original remote for the Marantz tuner I am using, so I couldn't train the button in the usual way). Anyway, this is complicated and time consuming to figure out, but it looks like I'll get it with lots of trial and error. In the meantime, can someone explain to me what all of these downloadable configurations are? Do they just change the appearance of your touchscreen, or do they alter the way the remote functions?

For the most part, yes - just changes the appearance. The way the remote functions is dependent on how you program the "action lists" associated with each button. The software is much more flexable than programming on the remote. It's also much quicker as well. On the remote, you can only program "macros" (multiple commands) on a button that lives on the "macro side". In the software - any button (macro or device side) can be programmed with a macro. I.e. you don't have to record a macro on the macro side and then alias to it on a device side button. Jim L

Thanks. It would REALLY be helpful if someone had written an instruction manual for the software! I'm going to be browsing through this site for helpful info, but if anyone can suggest specific files that are good reading for getting started and learing the most useful features of the software, I'd appreciate it.

Click on the links in the box below, in particular you will find : the FAQ, Reviews, Play With It, Phases, Planning and ALIAS.CCF helpful when just starting out.
And remember when you ask questions to be specific in your Heading and very specific in your question, including precisely what your problem/question is and what model Remote you have and what OS you are using on your PC.
Also, don't forget the Search Forum at the bottom of the Page. It may seem slow but it is VERY thourough and don't be mislead by the "0%" you will see on the first screen, it is only a progress marker.

There is an instruction manual - you can download it from the files area here. It is also on the CD.

I see a manual for the RC5000 Setup Ver 2.0, but I don't see a manual for the Touchscreen Setup Ver 1.0.14, which is what I'm using. I don't have any CD (there was no CD in the box for the RC5200). Am I missing something here?

Yes you are missing something. The current software. Go back to the file section. And download TSS v2. Or at least the latest. Rob

Adam, That's the manual. Hasn't been updated but the vast majority of the features are in there. It also helps to download the FAQ (link at bottom of page), lots of stuff they didn't explain well (or at all) in the manual. Jim L

Thanks to all. I'm reviewing the manual and the FAQ, and making progress.
