I recently upgraded my PC to Windows XP. Now, each time I attempt to have the Marantz RC5000 Setup program learn an IR code, the program terminates abnormally with an error in module user32.dll. I'm using v2.3.1 of RC5000 setup. Is this version compatible with Windows XP, and if not, where can I get one that is?
Thanks,
Joe Wharton

Joe,

Conventional wisdom around here is not to try to learn while attached to the computer. It seems as though XP as well as NT and 2000 have many more problems with this than did Win 98 and Win Me. As a result, you're probably doomed to learn on the remote and then upload.

By the way the current version of Marantz's software is TouchScreenSetup v1.0.14. Just for your information, although Marantz's website says it's not, it works fine on XP. Learning excepted.

I agree with Jim. TSS works fine for me with XP. Never tried learning while connected to the PC.

Compatability settings have no effect on ProntoEdit.

Many thanks Jim. I wasn't aware that TouchScreenSetup had replaced the old RC5000 Setup program. I downloaded it, transferred my ccf files to it, and everythng works now - even using Learn with the Pronto connected to the PC!

One other question: The download included update files for the Pronto firmware. I tried installing the 1MB USA version (I'm pretty sure I have a 1MB model since it doesn't have an 'i' suffix) and received the message 'This firmware update is not designed for your device'. If this isn't the right one, what is?

Thanks,
Joe Wharton

Joe,

I have no idea!! I haven't heard of a problem updating the firmware with TSS and an RC 5000. Yes, you selected the right choice (1meg US model). Not the UK model. Check the setup page on your remote, what does it say for App and Sys, the current versions are 5.1 and 4.91 respectively.

Pronto Edit works fine on my XP and it will also learn while in Pronto Edit - Maybe I am just lucky there.

The emulator will crash if you have an IR Code that doesn't have a name. This happens when you cut and pasted a hex code into an IR Code using PE V2. You can give it a name in V4.05.

Touch Screen Setup 1.0.14
Ok if you try few minutes, you will think it works fine on windows XP, BUT soon you will lose your job!

TSS 1.0.14 is not reliable on Windows XP, often it crash when you use paste function (anywhere, especially with paste IR code)!
I've got many crash at offset :0000f227

I don't think everyone has experienced your level of problems with TSS and XP. In any event, you could try Tonto instead. It's a much better program anyway IMHO.
