I'm on about my 6th Pronto or CHAD device, and I am still spending a BUNCH of time at it. Basics go fast, but there are button macros and jumps that can only be done in the editor; there are certain learned commands that seemingly can only be done nose to tail with remotes on the table; then you have two changed versions, one in the device, and one in the editor. Upload, re-edit, download again.
What I am asking is: what is the most efficient sequence for setting one up? Can I avoid using learned codes by editor features I don't know yet? Does the emulator take learned commands and incorporate them into the current CCF? I need a good plan for doing this more efficiently.
Also, if the editor is open long enough, the hard drive seems to thrash and never stop accessing - saves and downloads creep along - quitting and restarting the editor speeds things up again.
Appreciate your feedback. =Tom

Tom, As far as codes go - my first stop is the files section. Download several ccfs for the device I need and then incorporate them into my ccf. I do give a quick look at the codes to see if they look clean. I then download to the remote and check to see if they work. Only occasionally do I have to learn a code. Using the files area saves a lot of time spent on relearning bad codes. Jim L

You should all of your IR codes in separate panels, and use aliases every else to these codes. Then you only have one place to learn your new IR codes.

Let me see if I get this - do you do any searching for devices on the remote itself, or do you search all the IR codes in Pronto Edit?
As far as going into the files section - do you always have that flexibility when going out into the field?

Don't do anything on the Pront directly - except learn codes. Everything else is done in ProntoEdit.
As for your other original question, you should save frequently, and exit ProntoEdit every now and again. Otherwise, it might crash.

As far as going into the files section - do you always have that flexibility when going out into the field? the best thing is to do it before hand, have as much ready in the comfort of your office. I try and do it in stages, Do everything on the PC (interface, existing codes from library, macros), then, when I get there if I need to learn some codes, download the ccf to the Pronto, learn the codes and then upload to PC

I learn codes directly through ProntoEdit with my TS2000 hooked up to my PC. Works great.

Though learning through ProntoEdit is NOT recommended as it often results in dirty codes.
