Hey guys... I am having a slight problem. I am making a new start button and everytime I run the emulator it distorts by bitmap. then when i go into the panels themselves they are distorted too. I can then reload the "good" bitmap" and run the emulator and what do you know... same thing happens. Please help me!!!!! Thanks

maybe it has something to do with the way that i am saving the bitmaps although i never had this problem before. I save the bitmap "for web" in photoshop. then i go to paint and save it as a 256 color bitmap and see no loss in quality at all. Is there another way to do this that retains the same quality? If so please let me know so that i can keep this bitmap.

it changes the color of the bitmap. it starts out a nice green bitmap ( start button for xp) and then it goes through the emulator and gets all kinds of shading and just looks terrible.

Neil,

I think I know what you mean. Kinda gets a case of the jaggies? I use Paint Shop Pro, convert an image to either the web safe pallet or the Pronto pallet, and it looks fine. Load the bitmap onto a button in TSS and it still looks fine. As soon as you run the emulator, it loses a lot of resolution - kinda like the old Atari block graphics.

does it look the same when it is on the pronto or does it look like it is supposed to? my battery was dead and i had to come to work? That kinda sucks. when people download my ccf they will think that i am a moron for haveing such a horrible graphic in my ccf! Were you able to get around this? Did you still use the graphic... anyone else had the same experience?

Neil,
when saving the bitmaps in 256color mode, are you sure, you use the right palette. To me it sounds like you may have used an adapted palette, which works fine for your graphics programme but contains colors, the pronto does not have.
Here's how I save my bitmaps in PS:
1. open the bitmap
2. -if it's an indexed color bitmap- Menu Image/Mode/RGB
3. Edit the picture
4. When finished: Menu Image/Mode/Indexed Color
5. Select custom as palette, click on load to tell PS to use a specific palette, choose tsu6000colors.act, which contains the pronto colors.
6. Choose the desired ammount of dithering (in your case: no dithering, I know you don't like it. ;-) ), press OK.
7. Save as xxxxx.bmp
This should work.

you always pull through andre. Thanks. i will give it a try tonight... how is your update doing? did you finish? I took the help part and turned into sound fields. luckily yamaha uses discrete codes for everything. It worked out great. i also made the desktop's computer "icon" bring up a message asking whether you want sound in the bathroom bedroom or both using real windows buttons. it is pretty cool. i am still working on cleaning up bitmaps and adding to functionality. Thanks again Andre

Neil,
sounds great, hope you'll be finished soon, though.
My update will take a few more weeks, because I also "upgraded" my home theater components. Also, my free memory is down to 3%
:-(

Neil,

The only thing that helped to some degree was dithering the bitmap (I was using the Pronto color pallet). I think what was happening is that until you run the emulator the bitmap is being displayed at the computer's resolution. The minute you run the emulator the resolution of the image is the same as a ProntoPro. Could be wrong about this, I'm not an expert on graphics. Yes, the image on the remote is the same as shown in the emulator.

Okay i got this one down fine... at least i am happy with it but i have reached a new dilemma. I have these minimized buttons that are dithered. the only problem is that they are the ONLY dithered button in my entire ccf. When i change the color of them to a plain color i loose its 3-d effect that the dithering has given it. Can anyone give this a shot. Thanks
