In my search for discrete On/Off codes for the Yamaha DVD-S520, one forum I visited suggested that Yamaha DVD players are actually "re-packaged" Panasonic products. Do you know if this is true?

We repair them and they use the same optic units. Some may be repackaged with Yamaha cosmetics AND Yamaha codes.
Other manufacturers do this as well.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

Yamaha has definitely used repackaged Panasonic players. I am not sure about the Yamaha DVD-S520 though. However, the files area contains a CCF for the DVD-S520 with discrete Power on/off codes:
Power On: 0000 0072 0028 0000 0060 0021 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0bcb 0060 0021 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0021
Power Off: 0000 0072 0026 0000 0060 0021 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0bcb 0060 0021 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0020 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0020 0010 0010 0010 0021
These codes are definitely different from the Panasonic Power On/Off codes.
Panasonic Power on: 0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AB6
Panasonic Power off: 0000 0070 0000 0032 0080 0041 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0030 0010 0AB7

I believe that the Yamaha 510 & 520 are actually repackaged Philips DVD players. The S795, S796 & S1200 are repackaged Panasonic dvd players.
Best regards, Dennis.

Thanks for the info, guys.
Sorry for delay in responding - out of town this past week.
I tried the codes above last night (thanks, PS1). Had tried them before. Both Yamaha codes (on and off) act as on/off toggles, not as discrete. I tried the discretes in the discrete files section before, as well as Mark Voss' component ccf file.
The Panasonic codes don't work at all.
I may try some Phillips codes in the future. For now, I put an "Off" (or "On") button for the DVD on the Home menu, treating the DVD as a TOAD. Good enuf for now.
Thanks again for the assistance!

Yamaha has a web page with IR codes for some of their products [Link: yamaha.com]. Unfortunately, the Yamaha S520 is not one of them. Have you considered trying to decode on some of the IR codes you have learned with IRTool and try to find a working discrete code by generating new IR codes using IRTool?
