Echoslob, The slider works like this: You have four panels: Mute, LV (Low volume, MV( Mid volume),and HV (High Volume). I will explain the low volume panel and you will understand the rest.
It has five major buttons. (1) A button with the view of the whole slider with a slider button on it. (2) A lower portion of the slider. (3) A middle portion of the slider. (4) A top portion of the slider. (5) slider button --- this shows the location of the volume level
When you press the lower portion it is just a delay wiht no jump
When you press the Mid portion it is a jump to the Mid Vol panel with a discrete code for volume... only available on yamaha receivers
When you press high portion it is a jump to the hv panel and uses another discrete code for volume. My receiver can have a few of these dicrete codes but i did not want the slider to be to difficult to use due to a small area to be percise.
I hope you get it now

For JoeH,
I will try to get that ccf out to you today.. i am still on vacation

When you press the lower portion it is just a delay wiht no jump Neil: won't it be better to have LV sound and no jump, that way if someone uses the vol+/- he can go back to the low level.

i think that i am smissing your question. from what panel. If you hit vol + - then it will work like normal. If you tap ofn the corresponding button then it will go to low mid or high. please elaborate more on the question.
Are you talking about from the lv panel or on the vol control in general. are you saying when in lv then use the vol up / down to raise or lower the vol?
Thanks Anthony

Neil:
I told you I'd take a look at your CCF once I uploaded my new one, so I'm making good on my word. Your post asked for comments and critiques, so I'm going to give you my real thoughts.
First off, you've put a lot of work into this, and it shows. Regardless of what anyone says, you've already done more with your Pronto than most people ever will. As long as you keep taking people's comments (including mine) with a grain of salt, you'll find that even the most abrasive people can help you improve your end result.
Now on to the constructive criticism:
- I'm not sure if the text centering in menus is intentional, but Windows XP always left-justifies text in menus.
- The font is scaled differently for different items. Particularly, "Help" is a smaller font than the other three items.
- There are scaling artifacts in some of the text graphics.
- You use a lot of bitmaps for text labels throughout the CCF. If it were me, I'd use the Pronto font in ProntoEdit. Then customizing your CCF becomes a possibility for folks with limited exposure to graphics programs.
- The Windows XP Start menu has a newer, more modern look than the Win2000 style menu you went with. I'd go with the XP style. This isn't just for appearances, either: the XP-style Start menu would take up most of the screen on a Pronto. This is a good thing! If your menu takes up the entire "desktop," then you only have to create your menu structure once--you won't need custom versions for every panel in the CCF. Your CCF would become far more manageable for folks who want to customize it.
- It looks like you've chosen to posterize your graphics rather than dither them. I prefer dithering, but that's just a personal opinion.
- Many buttons in your CCF are far too small to be used with a fingertip. This may be intentional: I have a section of my own CCF that specifically tells you to use a stylus.
- I can't figure out why that little pattern appears in the title bars of your windows. I've tested the default XP colors, and they dither beautifully into the ProntoPro palette.
- Red text is very hard to read on a light blue background. It's even worse on a very "bleedy" screen like the ProntoPro has.
- Your Start button appears to be on a white background, instead of blending in to the task bar.
- I recommend choosing a different color than white to use as your "desktop." On an XP-style interface, the white background makes me feel like something got "left off."
- I tend to avoid placing buttons at the very edge of the screen. People with larger fingers end up hitting the bezel, and it's unpleasant.
- Your Start button and menus sometimes "jump around" by a pixel or two. I'd check each one and make sure they're placed consistently.
- I'd try to make the "favorite channels" icons more consistent in size.
- The numbers on your "favorites bar" are not aligned on the same baseline.

Neil,
You're right: I downloaded the file from Remote Central. I've got the older version. Perhaps that's best--you'd probably already addressed some of my comments before I ever sent them!
I'll wait until your new one gets posted instead of getting it via e-mail. I'm still into that "Support Remote Central" philosophy! :)
Thanks, Dale
