Anybody have an idea of when Philips is planning a new release of the TSU 6000 and what the likely upgrades may be? (i.e. USB connection, processor upgrade, display enhancements, etc.)

There have been no hints from Philips.
USB support would not require any hardware changes to the remote. Just, at a minimum, s/w changes at the PC end.

Would it not need a USB controller in the remote control itself?
Unless you do a simple conversion cable, like the UCommand 626, though you won't get speed much beyond maximum serial.

If you want the full functionality of USB, you would also need a change in the firmware, possibly even in a chip. That's why I said "at a minimum".

True. The serial UART is built-in to the Dragonball CPU (MC68328/MC68VZ328). Only the newest Dragonball's (PC68SZ328/PC9328MX1) support onboard USB. Without a chip change or adding USB hardware, there would be no speed advantage. No idea how much that would increase costs.
