I have the UK version (RU890) of the Pronto and have had battery problems from Day One. I use regular Alkalines or rechargeable NiMH and fresh batteries work fine for only a few (3-4) days. They don't discharge though...I just have to take them out and reinsert them and they're fine again for a few more days.
Any idea on what the problem is?? Better yet, any of you have a solution?? FYI, I've re-flashed the ROM and it still has the same problem.

Does the low battery indicator blink (top-middle) anytime before it goes dead?

Just to expand on what Rufus said, the battery meter is extremely unreliable and should not be used to determine battery condition. The only true indication is the low battery indicator. Jim L

The battery indicator indicates full but it still just refuses to switch on after a few days. All I have to do is remove and reinsert the batteries and it'll be fine for a few more days.

Just to clarify... I don't think its a battery meter problem since the same problem occurs even after I put in fresh batteries.
It works fine for a few days then it just doesn't want to switch on. If I take out and reinsert the batteries then it works fine again for a few days.
