I am so sick of dealing with the inability to learn IR codes via this software. How can Philips and Marantz advertise this software as compatible with anything? The latest version of RCedit crashes on both 98 and 2000 when learning IR codes via the remote serial connection. How difficult can this be to fix?

I'm aware of the work around to learn the codes in the remote after designing in the software but this is a pain in the ass and should not be required. Why do they even have a learn function if it doesn't work?

I wonder how much Daniel would charge for a banner ad complaining about this "feature"? Someone needs to get their attention. Clearly, they know they have the market cornered and don't have to do anything to fix this except listen to a few disgruntled users here which doesn't seem to have any effect.

I'm so stupid I went out and bought a 9200 thinking perhaps they had the problem solved. Has anyone been successful using this feature on any operating system?

Yes, some people have success learning via the software. But as you know, it can cause crashes and increases the probability of learning dirty codes due to timing issues. Since many experienced users use an "alias ccf" learning all codes to these buttons on the remote and then uploading to the computer is not really a big deal. It takes maybe another minute to upload.

Issues such as a true drag and drop capability, fixing memory leaks, a global search and replace function, etc., etc., would be a more beneficial place to expend their developement dollars IMHO.

I certainly see your point with respect to drag and drop from the alias screen to a buttons actions. This would be a great help considering everything HAS to be done using alias's. Why can't we drag a button from one panel to another? I've always wondered why they didn't ship the software with the remote. I think it's because the software is in permanent BETA mode. I guess I'd be too embarrassed to release it too.

With the exception of ProntoProEdit (don't know the OFFICIAL position on Marantz software) you're right. Philips has chosen to not support the software (perpetual BETA).

Yes, on NT. I only had problems with one remote (NEC projector), and that was dirty (unusable) codes not crashes. My theory (and yes I have said it many times) is that some of your PCs resources are used while the program is trying to learn, and that causes the program to crash. That would also explain why NT OSs tend to have more problems then the ones based on 95. (NT uses more resources to make sure that the PC does not crash)

If you really want the functionality, use Tonto. It can learn on NT/2000/XP.
