Thank for all the posts that I searched through for instructions. I replaced the L1 inductor, which appears to have been crushed by the rechargeable pack on it's last trip to the floor.
Some remarks: I didn't find a local distributor for the same inductor, and couldn't find a comparable surface mount version. I ended up buying a traditional inductor - looks like a resistor. I insulated the leads with shrinkwrap, and soldered the ends to the solder pads. This allowed me to tuck the new inductor (which is slightly larger) up under the top circuit board, and out of the way.
One thing to be careful of it to not let the soldering iron to rest on the board for too long - I now have a dark spot on the screen (about 2mm dia.) above the solder joint that I had trouble with. Hopefully it will fade over time, but I doubt it.
Anyway, it was fairly easy if you have a little experience soldering, otherwise practice on something else first.
Thanks again everyone for all the help.

Well it is a few hours later, and the spot has faded considerably - whew. It is now a very faint shadow, I guess most people would not even notice. Just FYI.
