What is the deal whith these. I have 2 pronto ts1000 without light sensors and I got a 3rd from J&R and it has a light sensor. Did they add these or remove them. Which model is newer? I didn't think any had light sensors.

They removed them, due to a material used in the sensor being unlawful in some locations. The one with the sensor is therefore the old one.

You have a really old one if it has a working light sensor. After that, there were models which still had a hole with something that looks like a LED where the light sensor was, but it is just dummy. Eventually the hole was removed.
