Running the ProntoEdit Emulator while Pronto is connected via th RS232 cable actually sends and really tests the IR code.
Has anyone tried to develop an interface for the Emulator? I'd like to design a new one, with such capabilities as programming conditionnal macros (i.e; adding the IF test to the Pronto macros), but I don't have any information on the communication protocol used to send the IR commands to Pronto via the COM port.
If someone as any information on that subject, please let me know!!

Sending IR through ProntoEdit is quite unreliable. There are timing issues and the codes do not always come out properly. Delays usually do not work the same as on a Pronto.

This is the reason why I would like to create my own software. My purpose is not to design a new ProntoEdit (too long!) but to use the Pronto as a simple IR interface (the way Homeseer uses CM11A, but extended to all IR orders, not only X10), whatever the ccf file is. So I just need to know how to send a single IR code to the Pronto, and then I would be able to manage 'macros', delays, timers, and so on with my program.

There is a document in the files area that provides some information on comms with a Pronto.

Otherwise, contact Stewart Allen (author of Tonto). Tonto can learn codes much better than ProntoEdit, and (I think) transmit codes.

I haven't added the transmit codes bit yet. It's on the TODO list. Once it's in, there will be an API for it so you can integrate that into your system. IOW, no need to launch the UI to send codes.
