Hi there!

I have an Apple Titanium Powerbook running os9.1 and Virtual PC, a Pronto Pro, and a Belkin USB to serial adapter. How do I get them all to talk to each other? I am not an egghead computer wizz, so be gentle!

Many thanks!

CB

I'm not a Mac guy so I don't really know but it might be worth checking out Tonto:

[Link: giantlaser.com]

It's an in-development Java replacement for Pronto(Pro)Edit and I think I read that it works with USB serial adapters on the Mac. Sorry if I'm wrong!

You can use VPC5.0 and a Keyspan serial to usb adapter. That's what I use, it is perfect. You can use tonto for MacOs X... it works too!!! but it is just for MacOs X.

That section of the FAQ is out of date with respect to Mac OSX. How actively is it maintained?

Andrea, et al. I'm newbie pronto owner so be gentle. That FAQ you quote is quite a bit out of date. Most Macs for the last two years or so do not have any serial ports. We all use USB. I have found (expensively) that USB/Serial connectors that were intended for PDA use - do not work for other serial purposes, eg Pronto work.

I'm still struggling to find an appropriate adapter.

A number of people have said that the Keyspan high speed serial adapter will work. I'll let you know tomorrow.

David
