Andrew:

I don't use an uninterruptible power supply on my 35-inch TV because the thing sucks so much power, it would run through my entire UPS in about a minute. If the power outage was any longer than that, I'd lose the whole benefit of having the UPS.

With a bigger UPS, this wouldn't be a problem, but the one I use is just a little one that I had laying around for PC use.

Andrew V: That's ok, most threads I'm involved in usually get derailed anyway. Most of the time by me! LOL

HEY MR. K :)

Usually I am at site a few more weeks before people start having fun at my expense. hehehehehe

After I read some more and see how most of you old timers here say the EMU is unreliable I am just downloading stuff to the pronto and using that way. See I can follow expert advice :) I am starting to get the hang of this. I am playing with CCF's and stealing discrete codes out of others and putting them into mine. A week ago I didn't know what any of this was? ;) Thanks everyone for getting me going.

Hey ECHO!

We offer no slack to anyone around here . . . least of all JJP!

EMUs are so much more economical than Ostriches, anyways.

Glad to hear the curve is getting less steep for you! But not altogether too sure I like the sound of "old timers" ! ! !

John,
"Hitachi TV -- no big deal, there is a work-around"
What is the workaround for the Hitachi TV? I have a 53SWX10B and I thought it was a 100% TOAD.
Thanks,
Al

What I've used as a work-around for Hitachi TV's:

POWER ON:

TV POWER
(.1 second delay)
TV POWER

POWER OFF:

TV POWER
(.1 second delay)
TV POWER
(1.0 second delay)
TV POWER

Hope this helps,

JJP

The Hughes satellite receiver also reverts to
it's "off" state when ac power is removed and then
re-applied to it. Not to mention with ac power
removed, it cannot update the account (PPV) or
settings of the receiver.

if when re powered it is off then you don't need to leave it unpowered all you need is to interrupt the current for a few seconds

Unless I'm mistaken, the Onkyo receiver reverts to
the "standby" state when first powered up and wipes
all surround, levels, and other settings to default,
which would be the case with the X10 modules.

(I have no idea about Onkyo) but some equipment that lose settings take a few minutes, seconds before it happens. The Onkyo might be the same. All you need to do to make sure what it does is unplug and replug it immediately.

Off
X10 - off
delay n-seconds
x10 - on

on
off
rec. - power
sat -power

I know this probably isn't the place for this, but a Niles IntelliControl will sync the TV and the Receiver,
and transmit RF to it's brain in system cabinet.

Yes Dean, I've thought of that also, as we sell the Intellicontrol. In fact, it looks like it's leaning towards the Intellicontrol.

I'll let you guys know what happens.

Tried that Mike. Seems he wasn't thrilled about cleaning up after it!

The bird obviously hasn't been to a Campus of Higher education yet! He needs to go to the Emu Building at the University of Oregon. I'm sure that they can take care of any training necessary.
