Prontoedit (2.0) can't communicate with my remote. "Port is open, but Pronto not responding" message.
Tonto finds the remote and downloads/uploads fine. I've been using that, but prefer editing with PE, for various reasons.
I don't understand why Tonto would work and PE doesn't. Maybe PE is just goofy, like paying for beer with Monopoly money, and getting away with it !!!!

Wazmix,
Your experience is not uncommon. I've had several people tell me they were on the verge or returning their Pronto (b/c ProntoEdit would not talk to it) before they came across Tonto. I spend a lot of time tweaking the comm layer in Tonto to make it more reliable. For most systems I've tested (PC and Mac) it's more reliable than ProntoEdit. Tonto also works with USB<->Serial converters which ProntoEdit seems to have problems with.
Tonto is being actively developed. What do you find lacking? What would you like added? Join the user list and make yourself heard.

Stewart,
What is Tonto and where can I find it. The search here produced no match.
Thanks, Aj

You got caught by the 'ol "Instant Gratification Negating"
"0%" Don't let that fool you . . . if you read the message above that "0%", you'l find that it is only a Progress Marker. It's fooled MANY in it's time.
If you have a bit more patience, here's what you'll come up with:
"Searched 18,135 messages and found 17 matching threads. You searched for all threads updated within six months, matching tonto in the Philips Pronto forum."

Stewart,
I have not downloaded Tonto as yet, but can it be configured for different com ports, unlike PE. I also like that it will work with USB/Serial converters (through a USB hub?)
What I like is a coder such as yourself that will listen to the inputs of your users and make the appropriate changes/enhancements!

Tonto scans all COM ports including USB serial ports.
I've generally had better communications success with Tonto than ProntoEdit; there are exceptions, of course, but Tonto has a lot of tweakable comm parameters and great logging facilities for helping me track down anomalies. If something isn't working, with help from users, I'm keen to fix it.

Tonto is a lifesaver. I had gone through hundereds of revisions of my CCF and when I upgraded to Win2000, I was completely crippled. I just got a new component and could do nothing to get it into my Pronto -- my CCF crashed every time I pressed the "Alias" button. I was ready to return it. Where do I send my money for this... Phillips should be worshipping you... I am still bitter at Phillips for not continuing to devlope Pronto Edit.

Stewart, nice program. Are there limitations on the type of USB/Serial interfaces that work?
I have the Keyspan USB PDA interface and that doesn't work. I have ordered a Keyspan High speed USB interface that some say does work..
Can you explain why some adapters work and others dont .. ps . having the same problem connecting to my telescope!!

The Pronto communicates at 115200 baud, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity (8-1-N). The PDA adapters are limited to lower speeds like 38400 baud and will not work with Pronto as a result. Other adapters simply lack suitable drivers.
I have used the Keyspan high-speed adapter for all of my Mac OSX testing.

I'm using a Belkin serial to USB adapter
Have successfully up and downloaded ccf to my RC5000
Have uploaded from my RC9200 but when trying to download, Tonto scans for the remote, but then I get an error message "0". Am I missing something
Also when tyring to load a ccf from file I get a message "not a valid ccf". If a try a couple of times it the will load the ccf
Any help much appreciated

I seem to have solved the problem.
Was using version 1.422 - I uninstalled this version and loaded 1.3
Now it works fine.
I wonder, should I use the "background update" to now migrate to 1.422.
Maybe I'll try later today????

Clive,
That's extremely odd. I would *not* expect 1.30 to work and 1.4x to fail. If you use the network upgrade, you can use the same menu to switch back to a previous version without reinstalling.
