What a awsome site!!!!! I didnt want to post a stupid question. I know you've probably only answered this a million times but I couldnt find just what I was looking for.....

I just got a new Pronto TSU2000 for Christmas and need a little guidence setting it up. I helped my parents set one up that I bought them 2 years ago but it didnt have the IR data base, I just did everything manually with thier other controlers. I plan on going farther with mine that thiers, I like all the different screens and everything that can be downloaded.

My main question is this.....how does the IR database work? When I read about it they make it sound like it redoes the buttons and everything for a spacific piece of equipment but ends up leaving out some things. Should I get my codes from the built in database then change the buttons all around by downloading new ccf files. (arent the ccf files the different screens?)

or, should I just get everything online???

Anyway, maybe someone will understand what I'm asking. Hopefully I'm not totally confused and asking something stupid but knowing me its prob a stupid question!!!!

Thanks for any advise!!!!

STEPHEN

No stupid questions asked, only UN-asked!

The IrDB contains everything the UDB Co. deems is everything. It is possible that there are other codes that will work for a device. Searching other CCFs will sometimes turn up codes that aren't even on your OEM Remote.

Should I get my codes from the
built in database then change the buttons all
around by downloading new ccf files.

The IrDB will create your Basic BLAH! Buttons with the codes assigned. You use these to Alias to from your "Fancy" Buttons that either you create yourself in a Graphics Editor or "borrow" from someone else's CCF.

(arent the ccf files the different screens?)

CCFs are (generally) complete, containing the Creator's Devices, Panels, Buttons and Codes. You download a CCF and then use what you want in your CCF and get rid of the rest.

or, should I just get everything online???

That's what we're here for!

Click on the links in the box below, in particular you will find : the FAQ, Reviews, Play With It, Phases, Planning and ALIAS.CCF helpful when just starting out.
Also, don't forget the Search Forum at the bottom of the Page. It may seem slow but it is VERY thourough and don't be mislead by the "0%" you will see on the first screen, it is only a progress marker.

Mike, thanks for the fast reply it was very informative. So am I understanding you right by saying everything on my OEM remote will pop up in my Pronto after I enter in my equipment?

If so, I'll use the Proto data base for my codes then just move everything around and make it look good by downloading new ccf's..........

Am I now on the right track????

It depends on whether you set it up directly on your Pronto or using ProntoEdit.

On your Pronto, it creates a whole device for you (which you can then upload to ProntoEdit and modify).

In ProntoEdit, you do it the same way as you set up your 1000. The only difference is that, when setting up buttons, instead of having to learn your codes, you can select them from the database (if they exist in the database).

Click on the "Phases" button of the help bar above. That's my personal plan for the basics and I think it addresses the questions you're asking, and organizes cogently the excellent responses you've gotten so far.

PS Don't forget to have fun with the thing!
