I received a Pronto NEO for Christmas and will probably return it and buy something else. I am considering either the ProntoPro or the Pronto 2000 but I am still open to suggestions.

As the subject states, I would like set up a single remote and use it in two different rooms. I would like this option because the primary need for a sophisticated remote is for use in my basement theater, but this room is only used for a couple of movies a week. I would like to use my new remote in the family room when not using the theater room, as this is the set up my family uses most of the time.

The remote would first need to control a Basement Theater made up of the following components as well as future upgrades;

An NEC XG85 CRT front projector. The screen is an 84” x 47.5” Stewart 1.3, the scalar is a Crystal Image set up at 720P, and the DVD player is a Sony DVP-S7000. I also use an RCA DTC-100 HDTV satellite receiver, Denon 3600 receiver and a Pioneer CLD-D703 Laserdisc player. For speakers I use Infinity Compositions Preludes and a Velodyne FSR-15 subwoofer.

I would like to then take the remote up to the family room and use it to control the components we use on a day to day basis, including:

A Sony 36XBR400, Sony DVP-s9000es DVD/SACD player, Denon 2800 receiver, and a Sony SAT-A2 satellite receiver. Also used but without remote capability is a Bryston BP20 preamp, 10B crossover, 4B-ST, 7B-ST. I have just finished some DIY North Creek Music Vision Signature monitors and a Leviathan 18” sub.

Is the pronto series capable of multi room/system use? Is it practical to use the remote this way? Is anyone else using a single remote for separate theater setups?

Thanks.

George

You can absolutely do what you are proposing. All you would have to do is set-up your home page with a panel that offers you a choice between operating the different rooms. As far as remotes go, you may want to consider the new marantz rc5200. I've been programming prontos since the day they came out, and they are simply wonderful, except for one thing, they lack a hard directional button control like a joystick. The rc 5200 has this feature which will prove very useful for such things as DVD navigation, television menu adjustments, and DSS navigation. There are still some bugs in the software, but those should be worked out soon enough. Also, the 5200 comes with the recharging station right in the box.
