OK, This is not brain surgery.. I am a programmer by trade and have done some amazing things with software. Why is this thing such a pain to get right?
I have not been able to have my RC5000i learn any codes from my pile of remotes. I tried both creating my own ccf (very basic), and then I used a ccf that I downloaded off this site. Both had the same result - the RC will not ack the learn command (I get the beep, then fail message).
A - is there something I have to do besides enter the learn mode (i.e. enter a command in the button properties, etc).
B- is my RC500i bad ? With the ccf I used from this site, I was able to control several of my devices that were already config'd, so my guess is that the IR is OK.
C - if I do have this messed up, can someone give me a step by step on how to create a button, then make it a learned function. If can see the construct, I can figure out what to do with it.
I have dicked around with this thing for hours already and I am quite frankly ready to use it as a $200 football.
I spent an hour looking through this forum and found nothing related to my problem!
Any suggestions? Mark K , Chicago

The 5000i should be the same as the Pronto TSU2000 and learning is done on the opposite end of the remote that transmits the IR. The little port bottom center is where it is located. It is also recommended that codes be learned on the Pronto and uploaded to ProntoEdit. -Bruce alpha2data on eBayThis message was edited by alpha2data on 12/22/01 10:51.56.

What an IDIOT!!! I figured it out. I was looking at my remote and was wondering what the little opening on the BOTTOM of the RC5000i was for... I thought MAYBE it was another IR port. Sure enough, it was the learn port.
I guess I should have paid more attention to the graphic in the manual, I now see that it learns throught the bottom...
What was that saying about not seeing the forest for the trees?

MKDon't feel bad. The mistake you made was a common error that "newbies" make every now and then ;-) -Bruce alpha2data on eBay

Every programmer needs a little humiliating moment in their lives to bring them back down to earth! ; )
