I recently bought a DS1000 online. Got it a few days ago.
I charged it over night the last 2 nights. A question...
When I go to the SETUP page and look at the battery meter it never goes above 3 or 4 bars even after a full night charge.
Is this normal? Is it because the rechargeable battery is 4.8 volts and 4 AA batteries are 6 volts?
I want to make sure my battery and charger are OK... I only have 2 weeks to return it if this is not normal behavior.
Thanks, Buzz

I have to admit... I read the FAQ and I thought for sure this wasn't my problem.
I mean... the base looked like it was charging (green LED), the Pronto was working... the only obvious problem was the graph of battery power on the SETUP screen.
Well, I removed the battery, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled as per the FAQ.
I've got 100% battery power now!
Thanks! Buzz

You are right about the difference in battery voltages. The meter is "tuned" to Alkalines and usually doesn't warrant even checking if you have the Dock.
Some people tend to go ballistic over the "meter reading", and convince themselves that something MUST be wrong with the dock ! ! !
The only thing I go by is the Flashing Low Battery Indication on the Pronto's "front" screen. When it flashes it either means that it's been too long since you set it in the dock, or your Pronto "took a hit" and you just need to re-seat the battery pack as per Bruce's instructions.
The Dock just lets me Set-it & Forget-it! I usually manage to get it on the dock a couple of nights a week for an hour or two . . . sometimes overnight. Sometimes it goes a week without finding it's way to the Dock, and I have "Full" Beeps & Backlight. Haven't really run out of juice yet!
