Hey All.

Okay, I've been playing with my SONY DVP850 and have setup movie selection screens on the Pronto.

I have looked at several CCF files, and am trying to find the best sequence of commands to select a dis.

Method 1.
This method does the following.
ENTER - DISPLAY - (DISC DIGITS) - ENTER.
Then you have to wait for the Disc to finish being loaded, and then:
DISPLAY - DISPLAY - DISPLAY

Method 2.
Uses the On-Screen Disk Explorer, but as we all know that method is very SLOW.

The problem with method 1 is that I have not been able to figure out how to clear the on-screen DISPLAY function, without first waiting for the disk to be loaded, and then pressing DISPLAY three times to cycle through the screens.
This means that I had to have a seperate "please wait" screen, that requires a button press once the disc has loaded.

The problem with method2 is that it uses the on-screen-dvd-explorer and that method is just plain slow.

Has anyone come up with a good solution around this.

(SONY: Here is your oppurtunity to step up to the plate and provide us with a discreet code for manual disc selection.)

Thanks in advance.

Good luck with Sony responding to this. There has been general griping about the Explorer and lack of discrete codes with the changers for a while. This interfaces for these changers is a disgrace. There - vented again.

Have you looked at Leo Nudel's SuperNudelist to manage the player? Then you can set up your "Enter, Enter..." macros as "before" and "after" buttons (you'll have to do a bit of reading to figure out SNL but it is really worth it. [Link: ox.compsoc.net]

I included a 20 sec delay in my "after" button macro to let the player wind up, select, then send the enter command to clear the screen. You need to be careful to keep the remote pointed at the screen for the 20+ seconds though, or it will miss the final enter command.

Thanks Jimbo.

I've played around with the Supernudelist, but ended up just doing everything manually. (I have a tough time letting go..)

I've built macro's to do the pre-disc selection stuff, then I enter the numbers, then I have a macro do the post-selection stuff.

I like your idea of waiting 20 seconds, but I'm not going to do it. It make it non-intuitive, and the last thing I want to do is to have to explain things to my guests...
I guess the Marantz 5200 would solve that problem as I could go RF, but that's a whole other story...

Dammit Sony. I was so happy to get the 200 disc player, and so disapointed when I discovered how bad the user inteface was.
At least the Pronto is a step in the right direction.

Thanks for your input.

You don't have to wait 20 seconds for anything, I select disks using nudelist and they load and play, no extra button presses.

I can take my CCF to pieces to see what buttons are included in the macro, but it was fairly simple from what I remember.

Craigybb - would be very interested - on my changer (SonyDVDCX870) the changer won't accept commands at various points in its start up, disc selection, etc. - I did all sorts of testing. But maybe I missed something - let us know.

OK maybe tonight, but certainly over the weekend...
