Can someone explain to me why I can find the Marantz 5000i cheaper than the Pronto 2000? I thought the Marantz was supposed to be the high end version.

Well, first we'd have to know what those prices were. I've seen new in the box 2000's advertised for $250 or less.

Well, the Marantz 5000i is going for $299. The best i can do with the pronto is $279, but the charger is extra.

Ok, I did a quick search. Using pricescan.com I found a company advertising the 2000 for $241 but they're out of stock. On the other hand -- a quick trip to ebay found a buy it now price of $245 for the 2000. The seller is alpha2data aka Bruce. He is a long time participant on this forum and has an excellent reputation in all respects. Sales AND service. You could probably email him and get that price. Check the profiles for alpha2data.

Chargers can be had for $40 to $50 at one of the Yahoo stores and probably similar pricing with the dealers I mentioned. Other options are JandR.com they claim their price is too low to advertise and will email a quote or RRdeals.com. Even so, the Marantz has a 3 year warrantee so maybe the slight difference is worth it. I really wasn't trying to be offensive in my 1st post -- just couldn't tell what the playing field was.

Marantz probably considers that the 5000i has been superseded by the 5200.

Like Peter said. the 5000i is being replaced by the 5200 so the place you found it is trying to get ride of them to make place for the new one (not that it means that there is anything wrong with the 5000i)

Anthony,

5200 is not replacing the RC5000i, the RC5000i is continuing to be in full production until further notice.

5200 can rarely be found for $475.00, while the Marantz RC5000i which is the top of the "Pronto" remotes line, can be purchased for limited time only (Our Christmas sale...) for $299.99

There is NO "clearing" of the RC5000i remotes nowhere, we just got fresh shipment.

Getting TSU2000 for $240 and then adding the docking for around $70...Doesn't sound very good deal to me....
It is well worthwhile to get the Marantz RC5000i bundle rather than the TSU2000, not to mention the many more advantages the Marantz has include the extended warranty and the new RCEdit - just released.

Tony: Like I said there is nothing wrong with the RC5000i. And I admit I don't know if Marantz will continue both lines (I just think it will be weird to have two very similar remotes). But on this forum, there have been others who have stipulated that they were gearing for that change. mdroms never said who he was buying it from, so I definitely could not tell the reasons for the price, I was just giving one of the possible reasons. On the other hand $70 for the Dock is MRSP, you can find it anywhere (if not everywhere) for less. That does not mean that $300 for the Marantz is a bad price, (I have not looked) but I think it is a very good price.

P.S. Plus I don't think the MRSP has gone up for the 5200 (the same thing happened when the 5000i replaced the 5000)

If the 5000i is continuing, Marantz may have adjusted its price to fit in with the 5200.
