I recently had to upgrade my pc's OS from 95 to 98. I just copied the .exe from my old(slave) hard drive to the new drive that I loaded 98 onto. the program works, but it doesn't recognize the USB when I try to upload the ccf Either the setup program has to be installed rather than just copied from one hard drive to the other, or 98 isn't recognizing the USB port. If I need to download and re-install 1.01 where can I get it? Marantz only has version 1.1 Also if I can't get it anywhere, what version can I use without upgrading firmware(Marantz says 2.3 won't work on prontos). I have one of the original RC5000's that came out right after marantz started coping prontos. I am not even sure how much memory it has, however it is not 2 meg(iam at work so I can't get s/n now) I am not even sure it has 1 meg. I would appreciate any help.

"1.1" is an incorrectly labeled "1.01". And why would you want that? Download v2.2.

Do you have a Philips Pronto or a Marantz RC5000 if it is a Philips Pronto you should use ProntoEdit if you have an RC5000 you should use RC5000setup or RCEdit. Com problems are not SW related and a new download will not help.

Anthony as stated I have a very early RC5000 and if in fact the software was 'installed' on the PC rather than just copied, then the executeable might reference a dll from the old operating system that it installed. Also if anything was installed in the registry that allowed it to acess the COM port there might also be a problem. That was my original question. can I just copy the .exe to the new drive and execute it. Also I still don't know wether I should use 2.2 2.3 and what are the firmware update ramifications of both.

You must install the software. I don't recommend v2.3 due to the "more difficult" dedesigned interface. I don't recommend v1.01 as it's too buggy and doesn't support any of the RC5000's special features. I'd recommend download v2.3 merely for the new firmware (bug fixes), you can then go back to v2.2.

The software does use Dll's but it did not use the registry, it did use an ini file. But you are better off using a more recent version, since Marantz added multiple page jumps, back/forward commands, the ability to change the scroll icons, the ability to lock devices and macros (so you cannot use the macro/device button and menu to change).... If you look here [Link: remotecentral.com] you can find every version for every remote

RCEdit is really designed for use with the RC5200 & RC9200. It'll work with the RC5000 as well, but there's no real need (it adds a bit of unneeded complexity). v2.2 seems to be the best for the RC5000 & RC5000i.

Though RCEdit will download the new firmware to those RC5000s that come from the productiuon batch that won't download using V2.3.
