Hello,
I have all the usual problems with my Pronto TSU2000:
- If I press too hard on the screen it reboots - Sometimes it just reboots even from a light touch, especially if the batteries are low - Sometimes it just shuts off and I have to remove/reinsert the batteries - The charger base hardly ever charges the unit more than 15 minutes before shutting off
Lately, though, all these problems seem to be getting worse. Is it worth trying to get a replacement? Are there people that have Prontos (and chargers) and never, or rarely suffer from these problems?
My initial attitude of 'grin-and-bear-it' is quickly turning into 'how-the-heck-could-Philips-ever-have-marketted-this-thing?'!
Thanks,
Andy K.

You seem to be having a lot of strange problems.
How long have you had it, and where did you buy it?
Was it ever working right?
If it is a recent purchase, check with the seller. If it has been awhile, I'd contact Philips and see what they say.

Standard things to try first:
- ensure you are on the current firmware level; for a 2000 that is APP v5.1 / Sys v4.6 - download a fresh copy of the firmware - leave the batteries out for at least 8 hours - make sure there is nothing funny with your CCF by seeing if it also happens with the Default CCF
By the way, it is normal for reboots to occur when the battery is low (even moderately low).

Thanks for the feedback so far. I am aware that all these problems are fairly common. Its just the frequency of them that I am objecting to.
(For example, it is not at all uncommon for a reboot to occur for me if the battery meter is only 2 notches empty).
I will try re-downloading the firmware. Could this possibly help things like the recharging problems?
Thanks,
Andy K.

A lot of recharging problems are caused by poor electrical contacts. There are plenty of threads on how to ensure the contact is made properly.

Yes, I've tried all the ideas about lifting the contacts, seating the battery, etc on the threads. Sometimes they help, usually they dont.
I guess what I want to know is: Is this a constant, ongoing problem for anyone else? Or do the solutions given tend to fix the problem and thats it. Do I have an especially finicky remote?

What makes it strange is that we have seen everything you write about from time to time on other threads. We just don't usually see them all together in one unit, and so unrelenting. That's what leads me to believe, if these fixes don't solve the problem, you might just have a lemon. It happens.
I still would be interested in knowing how old this unit is, and the performance history before all this garbage started happening.

Hello Andy,
Wat could be the problem? Are you working with the latest software? Why does your pronto reboots when waking up ? When you're pronto needs to refresh a screen with a lot of bitmaps --> when you have to many bitmaps on the screen it probably takes to long (perhaps you get a Watch dog timer reset WDT!, a forced reset by the device hardware to prevent a constant hang up of the pronto) --> if this is the case the solution is simple remove some bitmaps of the crowed panel.

Joel, thats what I'm thinking too. I've only had it a couple of months, and the problems were there from the start. However, at the beginning I would classify them as being rare. They are much more common now.
Perhaps I will send it to Philips then, if the BIOS download doesnt help.

Only a couple months and the problems have always been there? Return it to your seller for a replacement.

Oh, BTW, do I need to wipe my ProntoEdit-made ccf before sending it for repair? Is it still the case where using ProntoEdit voids your warranty?

I don't think it is the use of PE that voids the warranty but if PE causes the problems. On the other hand the way I understand it, you call the help desk and they tell you to send it in, as soon as they receive the remote (or if you call them with a shipping number), they will return a refurbished remote. So the decision has already been done. But send just the remote (no box, manual, batteries....) if you do there are good chances you will not get them back.

Don't feel alone. I've had my Pronto for about two years and I have experienced the same problems ever since it was new. If you find a fix, please post it.
