I know i read this somewhere before but.... I can't find it now. Is there any way to make the hard button do something on one screen and something else on another in the same device. Or have it do 2 differnt actions the first time it is pressed and then something else the second time it is pressed.

No, hard buttons can only be programmed at the device and system level.

And no, each button always performs the same way each time it is pressed. However, you can simulate this by having two otherwise identical panels. However, each copy has a different action on one of the buttons followed by a jump to the other panel.

Then the second button would have to be a jump back to the first, right?

I setup my rc5000 for a DVD player. The DVD player spans 3 devices.

On the menu and transport panel of the DVD Device, the left and right gray hard buttons are Pause and Stop respectively. When I need to go to the Shuttle panel, I jump to the 2nd device. In this device, the Left and Right buttons are 1/5 < and 1/5 > respectively. From the Shuttle Panel, I can toggle to Jog Mode by pressing the 'Jog/Shuttle' button which forces a jump to a panel that appears identical to the Shuttle Panel (text on a button changes from 'Shuttle' to 'Jog') yet exists in the 3rd Device. In this device, the Left and Right buttons are Step < and Step > respectively. By pressing the 'Jog/Shuttle' button in the 3rd device, I can easily jump back and forth between 2 modes.

This type of approach is rather ugly unless you disable the 'Device' and 'Macro' menus which I have done. Otherwise, your 'Device' menu will become littered with many devices which are only intended to be accessed from other panels.

Somewhere on this forum, there is a post about using the 'Action' list of a device to add a jump to a 'forbidden access' panel if a user selects the device from the 'Device' menu. it's a helluva lot easier just to hide the 'Device' menu. Especially, if you like to put macro-ized control sequences in the device Action list.

I hope this post clarifies the direction in which you need to head.

Regards,
Lyndel

But you can only disable the Device menu on an RC5000.

In my Pronto, I never ever use the device or macro menus, so it is not an issue for me.
