I recently got a new laptop (Sony VAIO PCG-981L) that
is running Windows 2000. When I use v1.05 of ProntoEdit (downloaded from Remote Central a month or two ago) with my original TS-1000/01 remote control the program crashes when I attempt to capture IR codes throuigh the remote. Actually, it will successfully capture one code after starting it up, but always crashes on any attempt to capture a second.

Has anyone else seen this? Is there a workaround/fix available anywhere. Also, if this is a known bug, has it been fixed on the newer versions of ProntoEdit (for the TSU-2000)?

Thanks for any advice/help,
Bob Willcox

This is the most commonly asked question.

Do not learn codes through ProntoEdit - there are timing issues with Win NT/2000/NT. Do it directly on your Pronto.

Hmm, I'm not surprised by this, but with W98 all I ever noticed was that some of the codes couldn't be learned (though most did work for me). What I'm seeing with W2K looks like a definite programming error (the ProntoEdit program crashes). This is more serious than just not being able to capture the IR code...you lose all of your changes since the last save!!

This is a known bug as Peter said. It is documented in the FAQ. Don't learn IR codes with ProntoEdit if using Windows 2000/NT

Do all the design, upload it to the Pronto, learn the codes on the Pronto and then download again into Pronto edit. Simple.

David: Even though it is worst on some NT,2000,XP machines. I would have just said "Don't learn IR codes with ProntoEdit". The Pronto is just better at learning, you might get good codes with PE but they will never be better then using the remote by itself. Plus it is faster to download and use the remote then learning using PE.
