Does anybody have European Pronto Pro (SBC RU 970)? What is the price (street price)? Is there any problems in use?

What you want to make very sure of before you buy, is if the dealer will handle any warranty issues immediately... what we in the US would call an immediate exchange by the dealer for a DOA.... a bad unit right out of the box, and not have you rely on Philips unless you can confirm the availability of timely service from Philips in your country in advance. A customer of mine from UK was told by Philips UK only a week ago, that they would not have any service parts until January 2002 and I had to send a replacement dock to UK by personal courier to my associate's company in Leicester to service my customer in a timely fashion. -Bruce alpha2data on eBayThis message was edited by alpha2data on 11/17/01 01:09.52.

I really wonder just what differences there are between the US and European models, apart from the model sticker, the power supply and the RF frequency.
The database of existing brands contains lots of names which simply do not exist in Europe and have never existed over here, "Broksonic", "Baysonic" and the rest. It's a pity it does not include brands which do exist, like B&O, Cyrus, Nakamichi (DVD), Meridian. I think the built in database is a complete waste of time and (because they have to licence it), money.

I don't want to address the advantages/dis-advantages one way or the other on the Euro vs the US model, but if I calculate the pricing at your link correctly, that is prox US$900.00 before the VAT which adds US$150.00 more and is much more expensive than buying here at prox UK 480.00. In light of the fact that Philips UK is saying they are not set up to service these units until January 2002, (see post ProntoPro loops when battery goes flat) are you replacing DOA problem units to your buyers at no cost?? -Bruce alpha2data on eBayThis message was edited by alpha2data on 11/17/01 14:51.45.

And if you upgrade a European model to V3.4, you end up with the U.S. database anyway.

PeterThank you, thank you, thank you! I was dying to get confirmation on this after reading Anthony's well stated posts in another thread. He is one of the people I have a high degree of respect for, and he made a good point at the time. I know you are one of the most intelligent and capable people here too; so I know I can rely on your information as accurate. Are you aware of any issues re: RF transmission frequency between the US model and the other parts of the world? (I am hoping the available selections settings would cover everywhere, but I doubt that.) -Bruce alpha2data on eBayThis message was edited by alpha2data on 11/18/01 00:46.11.

A few days ago, someone reported that when he upgraded his European to 3.4, the pull downs in PPE for selecting device, brand etc were empty. We tracked it down to his original European PPE software having a different database file (i.e. the European database) which was not replaced when PPE 3.4 was installed. When he deleted the database file from the PPE install directory, and reinstalled PPE 3.4, he got a database again.
As a copy of the database lives in the firmware, when he downloaded the firmware from 3.4, he would have replaced his European database with a U.S. database.

O.K. people, I think that'll be better if I introduce myself. I'm designer of home-cinema systems in Croatia (a small country near Adriatic coast in Europe), and I am also a dealer of PRONTO remotes. Since friday when I received first PRO model, I'm trying to find out is that something wrong with the Philips' pricing, before I start argue with Philips. Also I found some bugs in my PRO, so it will be nice to share experience. It is true for the database, and I also noticed that button light works only when you pick up remote. Now I'm trying to empty batteries to find out about the loop.
