Hi,
The Sony 400 CD Changer allows the user to setup and store up to 8 programs in the memory of the remote. The user is then able to select one of the programs to play and perform a "dump" of that program's info (disc and track numbers etc.) to the CD Changer unit.
Does anyone know the format of this "dump" and is it possible to replicate it using the Pronto...?
Many thanks, Andy.

I have a Sony 400 disc changer and I use SuperNudelist supported by VisiTrax to store CD info and control the jukebox. Is this your set up as well?

No, I haven't really looked a SuperNudelist yet. Is it capable of "dumping" programs to the changer without overwriting any of the 3 stored programs...?
My setup just allows me to play discs by selecting the title on the Pronto - fairly primitive I suppose.
I'm just getting an idea of what can and can't be done before I redo my setup.

I also have the CDP400 and I've not heard of this sort of capability in the remote. 3 programs, 8 groups, plus "Artist" programs I know of . . . . .
I too us Nudles great utility for selection as well as programing on the fly. (One of the 3)

My CD Changer is the CDP-CX450 which comes with the RM-DX450 "2-way remote commander". Not sure if this remote is the same as the one supplied with the CDP400 but it has a built in LCD display which allows you to view Disc/Artist info etc. This remote has the capability of storing 8 (A-H) 32 track programs and initiating a play of any of the 8 programs on the player without overwriting any of the player's 3 programs.

I'd love to get my hands on one of those remotes to try them out, though. Looks like with the CX450, most of the work went into the remote.
As far as the program goes, when the download from the remote occurs, does the display appear as if the user is 'clicking' keys on the remote. i.e. Does it look as if you were programming manually?
If this is the case, you can emulate this functionality using the 'Program' button and other IR codes available today.
If the display pretty much appears static during the download, you will have to use the Pronto to 'Learn' what is going on. More than likely, since the remote is 2 way, there is a Command-Response protocol in use with which the player tells the remote that the last command step sent was successful or failed. If responses are coming from the CD Changer, you may have a problem emulating this sequence as the Pronto cannot function identical to the DX450 remote control.

If the display pretty much appears static during the download, you will have to use the Pronto to 'Learn' what is going on. As far as I recall this is what happens. As you mention I think it may be using a command-response protocol. But, if it wasn't (i.e. if the remote was just sending out a batch of IR codes), would the Pronto be able to learn it...? My question really boils down to just what exactly can the pronto learn? I know that it works great learning single IR codes from buttons on other remotes but can it learn several IR signals sent in a batch. (An example might be can one pronto learn the signals sent by another pronto's execution of a macro...?) Many thanks, Andy.

Since the display appears statically during the sequence, there may be a command-response protocol going on.
If it is not a command-response protocol, then yes, you should be able to learn the sequence on the Pronto. And yes, one pronto can learn from another.
You may, however, run into limitations on the length of the code which you can learn.
I'm not sure of any limitations on the length of the sequence. Peter Dewildt or maybe Daniel can answer that question.
I'd be interested in what you can 'learn' from your pronto. Try a short program of say 1 or 2 songs and learn the sequence. Once you have the sequence learned, either send me the IR codes from ProntoEdit or a small CCF which I can take a look at. From my point of view, I'd love to know if the CDP-CX400 also supports this functionality.

Lyndel,
I finally got round to playing with the remotes this morning and this is what I found.
I create a 2 step program in the remote's memory containing the following tracks:
Step 1: Disc 2 - Track 1 Step 2: Disc 3 - Track 2
I then tried to get the reomte to download this program from a place where it could not receive response signals from the player (i.e. a different room). The remote's display read "Data Transfer Failed - Try Again". So obviously it does adhere to a strict command-response protocol with the player.
However, not to be detered, I attempted to get the Pronto to learn what the remote was transmitting. It seemed to have no problems. The IR is shown below:
0000 0067 00e2 0000 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 037d 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 037c 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 037d 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0177 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 015f 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 018f 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 018e 0060 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 018e 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0176 0060 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 018f 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a7 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a7 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a7 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a7 0060 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 01a6 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018
And, lo and behold, I point the Pronto at the player and hit the learned button and it transfers the program to the player. One thing I should point out that I got wrong previously: The downloaded program from the remote DOES overwrite the player's stored Program 1.
Another interesting point is that when I was teaching the Pronto, the player remote would not have been receiveing any responses from the player. This must mean that the remote have transmitted the whole program regardless...?
As an experiment, I tried switching the 2-way system for the remote and player off. Neither the Pronto nor the original remote could download program information.
Anyway, just thought I'd let you know what I'd discovered. If you analyse that IR code let me know what you find. Likewise, if you want me to test anymore program combinations just let me know.
Many thanks, Andy.

Hey
Andy could you learn a program like
Step 1: Disc 2 - Track 2 Step 2: Disc 4 - Track 3
Then I could try to analyse the hex code.

haav,
Here is the code for the program you asked.

Andy,
Andy, I have the CDP-CX400 and guess what? I just downloaded your program. You selected the following:
Disc #1 Track #1 Disc #2 Track #2
Is this correct? Also, does the remote support downloading to Program #2 or Program #3?
If so, could you post the codes for this?
How do you toggle the download capability on/off?
Additionally, I'm analyzing the code you sent and I have some wierd results I've never seen with Sony schemes.
Thanks, Lyndel

Edit: Just read the message I posted. Excuse the randomly scattered "|" as I was trying to achieve the "Reply with quote" look.
Lyndel,
|Disc #1 Track #1 |Disc #2 Track #2 | |Is this correct?
No, the program I posted the code for was:
Step 1: Disc 2 - Track 1 Step 2: Disc 3 - Track 2
I don't keep a CD in the Disc 1 slot.
|Also, does the remote support downloading to Program |#2 or Program #3?
No, not that I'm aware of. The user manual say that any program information downloaded from the remote will overwrite Program 1 on the player. There doesn't seem to be a way around this.
|How do you toggle the download capability on/off?
Not sure what you mean by this. If you are referring to toggling the "2 way" mode between the remote and the player, this is set via menu settings on the player. I don't think that there's anyway to do this from the remote.
|Additionally, I'm analyzing the code you sent and I |have some wierd results I've never seen with Sony |schemes.
Tell me more...!?!
Andy.

Andy,
You are correct. My Bad. It is the following:
Disc #2 Track 1 Disc #3 Track 2
Yes, I was referring to the turning off of the 2 way remote. If there is no remote code to to this, then so be it.
Can you shoot me a program sequence where you are programming the whole disc?
Thanks,
Lyndel

Andy,
Also send me a program with 3 steps as when I try to add a step to your sequence, the player will not take it. What I'm looking for here is some sort of checksum which indicates the number of steps or a CRC for the program.
Thanks,
Lyndel
