There'd be a lot of happy people if someone could crack the Disk Select code for the DVP 860 or 870.... ah well - maybe it just doesn't exist (doesn't anybody from the manufacturer read these postings - maybe they could just email the designers with the question?).

I'll be able to use some of the other codes - super work - thanks.

Lyndel, you referenced "sonycdchanger.zip" as being in the files section but I can't find it. Could you help a search-challanged person out and give me a link? Much appreciated.

I sent the file via email but it must have not made it. If anyone wants this file, I can generate an ultra-clean sequence for anyone who needs it before I can get the updated file on this site. Drop me an email '[email protected]'

Also, Jimbo, that's the next project I want to tackle. The DVD on-screen interface for disc selection really, really stinks.

You're telling me it stinks. Mine was a present from my (super) wife, but if it wasn't for Pronto & SuperNudeList I would have returned the unit and got a single or 5-disc player. She would have returned it herself if she had ever tried to find one of her CD's with the Sony remote! The interface is slow, non-intuitive - I can't believe Sony couldn't have done a better job. Maybe the market they are filling is restaurants that will only use random play or very high end customers that can get a $disk $management $system.

Lyndel, if you get the Sony DVD disk changer interface "fixed" I will gladly send you a (virtual) case of beer! If you happen to live in the Minneapolis area I'll upgrade the offer to real beer.

The Sony DVD 860 is the poorest Sony product I've ever had the misfortune to own in twenty years. Due stictly to the interface and it's habit of misfeeds.

Thanks!!

Jimbo, you mean like the Escient system? Or the Elan Via! Music???

They do work very well, but ARE EXPENSIVE!

John P- exactly - that's why I called it a $disk $management $system! ;-)

Maybe someday!

I hear ya Jimbo. I wish I could afford the Via! Music we sell.

It really takes the confusion out of managing your CD collection.

Has sonycdchanger.zip been posted to RemoteCentral yet? I have been looking for it but haven't seen it in any of the file sections or through a search yet. TIA!

I was looking through this tread and saw the refference to the Escient system. Seems like a large chunk of change to me. What makes it better than the Slnke from Nirvis?

I have one hooked to a CDP-CX300, CDP-CX450 and a STR-DA777 works great!

The Slinke was $199 a couple of years ago.

Jimbo,

The free jukebox software that comes with the Slinke does that too and automatically searches CDDB for any new disks when they are inserted in either player.
You can control up to 12 changers per Slinke. There are also user created applications that do screen savers and other cool stuff.

I have an old Compaq P166 notebook in my entertainment center that runs it all.

Seems like a pretty good (cheaper) alternative. I bought both changers for around $300 each and $200 for the Slinke. ($800 sounds a lot better than the $3000 for the Escient system with one 200 disk changer and a 600 CD maximum capacity)

But I guess I am digressing from the original topic and the great work done by Lyndel.

You piqued my curiosity and I dug around - it does sound like a very good option - my problem will be that I have a Sony DVPCX870 - Sony DVD megachangers can't be operated by the slink-e (per Nirvus info).

Darn....thankfully there's SuperNudeList

Bummer :(

That is the reason I have resisted the DVD changers, so far.

I wish Sony would add Control-A to them. instead of just Control-S...Some day...maybe.
