I just got a reconditioned Pronto 2000 from www.AVoutfitters.com for $219 + $5.75 shipping. I searched everywhere including Ebay and didn't find a better deal anywhere. It comes with the factory 1 year warranty and in a factory box with the manual, cable and cd-rom. Hope someone else takes advantage of this deal before they don't have any more. I will post as to the condition and ship time when it arrives.

That does not really seem like enough of a savings compared to the $224.00-$229.00 that PCMall has if you catch it at the right time. Especially in light of the fact that a refurb will more than likely have a much higher probablility of a problem than a new one.

I am not quite sure I understand the logic of your posted statement? It would seem to me that a factory refurb-ed unit will have, by definition, individually checked by factory QC folk, while new units receive checks only randomly during the manufacturing process. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I think he is saying that something new is better than something old. I personally would rather have something brand new. I dont think he is saying you made a bad decision.....just posting his response.

Reggie...

Cabledawg1 kinda said it, but as a matter of preference. I am speaking more specifically as a matter of what appears to be a valid conclusion.

I base this on my experience in having a couple of customers, that's two, who had a problem about 6 months after purchase, get a return back from Philips that was a refurb replacement of which one of the two had a problem and had to be returned back to Philips, and in light of the posts I am reading in the J&R thread about the number of TS1000 refurbs that seem to have defects.

J&R seems to be handling that to the customer's satisfaction, and I am in no way shorting them as it appears they are exercising good customer service in not charging the customer for the return of the defective refurb.

In the case of the TS1000, there is a considerable cost difference of $149.00 or so for the refurb. In the case of the TSU2000 above, it is just not worth it considering the low end of the eNet pricing for a new one varies between prox $229.00 and $249.00 currently.

This is just my opinion and I am not saying anyone is wrong that feels differently. That's why Baskin Robbins has over 33 flavors.

I'd also think that a refurb would have a less likely chance of something wrong, but some Prontos have been known to have "intermittant" problems that may not show up during re-testing. Not all returns are because a product is defective -- many times it'll simply be because the buyer couldn't figure it out, or didn't like it. So, finding a return that seems fully functional wouldn't be that rare an event... even if the remote doesn't.

I'd agree that J&R's TS-1000 price is excellent and well worth it.

I agree with Bruce. This statement is not about Prontos, but more general. THere was something wrong with the machine and it got returned to get fixed. If the guy repairing it did not do a good job (like Daniel said, intermittent problems are hard to fix)then the defect can still be there. Like cabledawg1 said, why buy something second hand when you can get it brand new at the same price.

Daniel: they are talking of refurbished TSU-2000s for $219 not the TS-1000s for under $150
