Just brought my new ProntoPro home eager to replace my old 1000 and have noticed that the screen has streaks vertically that seems to originate with objects such as the frame around the buttons or darker icons. The equipment menu on the right of the screen when opened has horizontal dark lines that take up the first half of the menu directly under the Home icon and are the same width as the home icon. The darker the contrast the worse it gets. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or do I have a defective unit? It seems as if the screen should be clear and sharp for the price I paid. I have the latest firmware update. I only have seven days to return it so any response would be appreciated.

This is in the nature of passive matrix screens. Try tweaking the contrast, it can help.

That is it... To cut costs they use passive matrix screens and not TFT ones... :-( This was the main reason why I decided to buy a Marantz 5000i and not the ProntoPro. US$ 500 more for a passive screen, to me it was not worth. I don't know what happened with the B&W TFTs. I had a Compaq laptop, years ago, with a TFT B&W screen and it would be the perfect screen for the TSU2000/RC5000i!

Well, even the RC5000i has a passive screen. Indeed the image problems on it are, in comparison, much worse.
The remote line could be expanded to support TFT screens though -- Motorola makes a compatible processor that runs twice as fast as the one in the ProntoPro and supports TFT screens (the current one does not).
