I've had this STUPID thing for about 5 days and I still haven't gotten anywhere. Down loaded the Pronto Edit manual, tried to make my own devices, panels and buttons - NEXT. I tried down loading individual devices, and they're not all there. Tried down loading entire system ccf's and got some stuff that I really like. Took the time to make the panels look like I want and then dropped the entire configuration into the Pronto. Went to learn each button, and guess what???? DIDN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've about had it with this remote. I'm not running lights, nor am I running alot of devices. I don't get this thing at all. I may have to sell it and go back to my RC 2000 MKII.
PLEASE, anyone out there that can help, please write back or contact me. I'll call, email, or use smoke signals.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Dave-- When you got the Pronto, did you start out just going through the basic set-up, using the built-in Pronto UDB? You should have, as that would have given you most of the working codes for your devices. Then you have some working codes to point the "good looking" buttons at (called aliasing). See my post on this thread: [Link: remotecentral.com]Then you learn the few buttons that are not in the UDB direct to the Pronto, and THEN you're ready to set up your look. Its much more important to get working codes FIRST, and worry about making them look good next.

Hey Dave, quit stealing my thunder... LOL. Guys (and girls) I started off by just trying to get something on the remote that works. I am pointing it in the right direction. I have gotten an entire CCF file to look and work (through virtual) how I want it. I copied another System CCF and i'm just trying reset the buttons to my commands. Is there anything that could be locking the buttons???
AS far as the throwing thing goes... I'm thinking about 120 feet or so. That's with batteries! Without the batteries probably about 160 feet!

OK, exactly what is happening when you try to learn a code?
Have you succeded in learning any codes at all?
And, are you trying to learn directly on your Pronto and NOT using ProntoEdit?

I'm learning the codes directly from one remote to another. I'll look at it again and see If maybe I was soing something wrong. I've gotten several emails asking if I would like the services of individuals. They would like to program the remote for me.
This doesn't sound all that bad, just think that at some point I'm going to have to learn.
Also occurs to me that there has got to be someone thinking of some better software. This stuff really sucks. Not very user friendly at all. Any way, that's just how I see it.

No No No, don't give up. If you've got the perserverence to come this far, it's just the frustration talking, which we can all understand.
Answer Peter's question. What is working and what is not? When you say trying to reset the buttons, exactly what buttons are you talking about.
Finally answer my question. How did you learn the codes in the first place? We need some info help you.

Ok, here is the deal. When I say reset the codes, I meant to say re-LEARN the codes. And, for the most part, I've figured out the problem. I now have every thing re-learned and only have a couple of problems.
1. I'm trying to learn the codes on my RCA DTV remote and I know that they've worked before. I can't get the pronto to learn anything on it. However, I did get it to learn on my Marantz MKII. I think that it has something to do with the RF portion of the remote. Does anyone have a clue as to what I'm talking about. It's not just certain functions, it's all of them. Now the RCA remote works the receiver, however when I go to program the Pronto with the remote it like it's not even emitting an IR signal. However when I go to program, the receiver is accepting the commands when I push the buttons. I tried covering the IR port on the front of the remote and it still triggers the RCA receiver. This leads me to believe that the RF portion of the remote is working and not the IR. Can it be toggled in some way? I know that it does both, due to the fact that I was able to program the Marantz.
2. There is a screen under the Home area that I can't program. It is a Macro that turns the system on and off. The button won't let me program it. How do I program a macro on a home screen?
3. There is a Family Name on the initial home screen. I'd like to change it, however I can't access text. I've gotten the change in MS Paint, and it looks good, just can't get it into the Pronto edit to change. Also, that particular screen (once touched anywhere) toggles the next screen with the macro (above screen in problem #2). What programming sequence is used to make the entire screen toggle the next screen or panel? And once I change the name, provided you guys get me there, will I need to re-program that screen to toggle.
I very much appreciate all the help!

2) don't try and learn macros, in PE -a) dblclk the button -b) click on action tab -c) click alias and from the list pick he action you want (like TV, panel1, power) -d) repeat C until done
3) text can be entered in two ways -- "True text": under the name tab in the name box -- "image": as part of the image (you will see it in the icon tab
if it is true text, then all you need to do is retype it if it is part of the image you need to save the image, then change it in your graphics program and reload it PE.
It should not affect what the button does

1. If you've changed the image in Paint and saved it as a bmp, open the buttons properties box [double-click on the button], select the "icon" tab, left-click where it says icon, browse and find the bmp and left-click on it. [There are four icon boxes. I have seen CCFs where the icon works if loaded into only the bottom 2 boxes, but I've always had to put the icon in all 4 boxes before it works.]
2. When you say the "button won't let [you] prgram a macro", what do you mean? I have macros programmed on home panel buttons and they work just fine. You can't "learn" a series of actions, you must manually program them as a series of alias actions, as Anthony says.

What I mean when I say that they button won't let me, is that when in the learn mode, I tap the button that I want to program and it wont blink or let itself learn. However, I think that once I learn how to program macro's in PE, things will get easier. I will try the image stuff tonight, along with the Icon stuff. Alias???????? I've seen it reference several time, however I haven't yet read about it in the PE manual. I guess I have to do some more reading. This is like learning a whole different computer language.
Thanks for your help guys.

Hey if all the good help here still doesn't work out for you, Big Mike, Then why don't you go ahead and see how far you can throw the remote- but see if you can gently throw it in an envelope and gently throw it in the mailbox to me. I'll be happy to take it off your hands, I'll even pay for your shipping costs.

Very Funny ;-)
I'll keep plugging away. Actually, I think that the computer stands a higher chance of getting thrown. Also, the guy that created this software should be castrated! At the very least he should be smacked around a little. LOL
Any thing on Question 1 - RCA remote for the DSS. IR vs. RF????????????????? That's the single biggest problem I have right now! Making the wife use any more than one remote, puts a little too much stress on the relationship.
