320x240, MGI photosuite, used the greyscale button?

I don't how photosuite works, but if you can get it to reduce the picture to 4-color greyscale, you might see an improvement. When ProntoEdit converts down to 4 color, it usually ends up awful. It also might help to reduce the size of the picture before you change to greyscale. Sharpening can also help.

Probably you have more than 8 bits per pixel. Try converting to Indexed color, and then back to RGB. Then you should be able to pick 1, 4 or 8 color bits per pixel. Pick 8.

I know a great way to get a picture looking good in 4 bit mode, is to turn up the contrast in the color image- then convert to 4 bit. Exeriement to see where the best amount of contrst will help- it is usually a great deal.
