What would be nice for the pro, is if you could allow compressed icons again as are allow on the pre-pro models.

Also, an option to remove the IR database. Like most people, I've no use for it.

I also read the spec of the dragonball processor, and it's go pcimca support built in. That's 95% of what's required to get compact flash working! So, put that in future models (and the Marantz 9200 please).

Actually, icons are not compressed with any version of ProntoEdit.

Compression is a feature that Philips removed before ProntoEdit was released to the public. However, if a CCF happens to have a compressed icon in it, it is still properly displayed. It turned out that decompressing an icon was too slow.

Peter, so with Oliviers ccfoptimiser/compiler it should too be able to cope with compressing icons.

I knew it wasn't an option in prontoedit, I meant using the ccf tools.

You can compress them with Olivier's program but it is not recommended as it noticeably slows down. However, if you have a picture that is not often displayed, go for it but on that picture only. For example, I have a fun panel with links to a few photos. I only go there to impress guests.

I should also mention that comperssion only applies to monochrome Prontos. All icons in Pronto Pro are stored in color, even if they are still monochome.

And are you really that short of space? Remember, there's a bug in the current remote: it only allows file sizes up to 4000kb, rather than the true 6144kb. (This has been fixed but is not yet available.)

Thanks Peter. It does seem in fact, that the icons on the pro are actually already compressed. I converted all my from cover images from dvdprofiler and they took up 4.65mb. When I then compiled it up using the ccfcompiler and decompiled it, the images only took 2.79mb.

Daniel, not yet, but at the rate my dvd collection is expanding it won't be too long.

Bitmap files are actually much bigger than the images in them. For example, each file has a copy of the 256 color palette used, whereas in a CCF the palette is standard so there is no need for it to be stored. Each pixel takes up exactly one byte in a Pro CCF - there is no compression.
