Daniel: do you know what is meant by 75%?
if you add channel icons, they are not original, and they can easily take up more then 25% of your CCF depending on the number of channels.

Meanwhile how many of the 2000 CCFs have as much as 10% original graphics. Answer: Maybe 5.

The Pro CCFs have original background graphics in many cases, but the buttons are maybe two or three different styles, and, surprisingly, many of them use that same gray mottled background for the button panels. I think it is a rreal tall order to get original graphics for the buttons, which are, lets face it, 75% of the CCF.

Does that mean I'm not gonna try? Nooooo. I'm just gonna have some fun and see what I can come up with. But it's taken Daniel, a Pro of the first order--what? 2 or three months?---to come up with his. Moral: this is a real challenge.

Anthony - lol, nice one!

Are channel icons copyrighted in some way as to not allow Philips to reproduce them for a default config?

Dan's should be a beaut...

Channel icons don't count and aren't required by the contest (but do 'em for sure!)

What Philips is looking for are *new* designs, thus requiring that the layouts have nearly all new graphics. A re-arrangement of the default buttons doesn't count. :-)

I have no problem with the contest per se. My only beef is that it should be judged by allowing visitors to the site vote on the configurations instead of some secret inner circle

The problem with allowing normal visitors to vote is the old issue of "stuffing the ballot box". And, the folks who will determine the final order are ones that post here on a regular basis and might be offended by any suggestion of impropriety. ;-)

I didn't know it was a Phillips sponsored contest.

In any case, it's obvious what we all could earn here - alot of new graphics that Phillips may add as bulk to their annoyingly simplified gallery.CCF.

In any case, I've said my piece - it's a huge investment in time. My TSU2000 caused me to take 2 days off work to program. I've only made about 10% original graphics (only because most of my channels, Hebrew subtitles for some of the graphs and satellite logos - were not available on this board).

In any case, doing it in color FROM SCRATCH would probably require me working for 2 weeks just on this damned CCF for any chances of winning. If I don't win, I've invested 2 weeks and got a $5 T shirt to show for it, YEY.

Quick calculation, but Philips has just gotten 10-15 sweatshop programmers to do their next generation of CCFs for them. Pretty nifty deal for Phillips :)

Obviously, I will not go into this contest, since I have a minor chance of winning. I think many others will make the same judgment too.

I personally will wait for this site to evolve and when enough people created their own PRO CCFs, and start posting them on the site.

Ultimately, we will all probably upgrade to a color unit, when prices drop a bit and when our existing prontos grow too old to use (or at least they will be in our minds).

I'm not knocking the contest. I wish anyone who wants to go into it - good luck.

Gregorious, please take it easy. I'm not trying to generate a flame war...

Like I (and Greg) said before, it's that how you feel, by all means don't enter. GO if you feel it would be fun to do, notwithstanding all the time and sweat. Otherwise

Dustin and Mango: LMBO on those ones!

Geez, if I'd known my pulling out was going to cause such controversy... SD
