I haven't posted this in a while so I thought I would give an update.

This site is to allow your Pronto to send out RF as well as IR signals. I converted Mine many months ago and have reported zero Problems. Plus it's cheap and you can do it yourself over a weekend sometime.

Heres the Link: [Link: hbs.net]

Have Fun!

Hi there, I was wondering if you have ever tried this on a TSU6000. I don't know if I'm brave enough to try it even if it will work but, I was just wondering.

Thanks

The 6000 allready has an optional RF extender capability. Why would you need to add it in this way?????

Because the rest of us cannot afford the 6000 and this is a pretty smart idea for the rest of us!!

I assume this intereting little device will not work on the RU940 in the UK as I beleive the IR transmits on a different frequency or am I confused???

Hi

I have converted my RU890 with a RF-module. The frequency is 433.92 MHz. I think this is standard i Europe.
So now can I use my Pronto to control my Philips RF power switches.

I guess I was wrong about that. I was under the impression when I was reading this originally that the RF conversion would allow you to acutally control RF devices not just keep your components behind closed doors. The RF extender for the 6000 will also not do this. I am looking for a way to actually control RF devices like lights and ceiling fans which are not IR. I believe some of the sony remotes can do this. I don't think I'd ever buy a sony remote but, it does kind of leave you wondering.

Thanks

The best way to run lights, Fans ect. is to get a base X-10 kit. They are really cheap and then after you do the conversion on your pronto, you can control lights and basically anything that pluge in, with the pronto. I have a lighting scheme setup in my pronto that works awsome, even if I'm not in that room!

Here's how it works

1)the pronto sends out an RF signal to the base unit (see my page for further info)
2)the base unit sends an IR signal to the X-10 box.
3) the X-10 box sends out an RF signal to the device (ie. lights).

So you can see that a lot of conversions are going on here but it works great.

Mike,
why can't you send the RF signal direct to each device, without all the RF to IR to RF conversions?

Thanks Mike, That sounds like a good plan. I wonder if the RF extender that is a component of the TSU6000 will send signals to the X-10 box. If it does I won't even have to open up the remote. I also took a look on the Smarthome site that you link to and I couldn't tell which x-10 device you were talking about. If you get a chance can you throw a link to that in here somewhere. I'd appreciate it. Thanks again

Haav,
The reason why the pronto cant directly send the RF signals is because the electronics needed to do this simply wont fit into the pronto. It's actually a miracle that this modification fits as it is. So, that being the case, if the electronics needed won't fit inside you have to put them outside the pronto (ie. the extender box). So in order to get this to be a 'do it yourself' project this is the only way to do it.

Hobie5,
You'll need one of these (the controller controls up to 8 devices) [Link: x10.com]

Then get the moduals or switches you need. Take a look at the descriptions of each one and you'll get an idea of what you need. Then all you need to do is download an x-10 ccf and your ready to rock. [Link: x10.com]

Hope this helps

Do you now what frequency and codestructure the x10 RF remote uses?
I mean if x10 and you RF sender uses the same frequency then it´s possible to create a code for x10 in your Pronto.

I have done that with my Philips RF power switches.
No IR to RF conversions, just a basebandcode to the RF-module.

Will this work with the Marantz RC-500? I've heard that these devices use the exact same hardware and just some of the software is different.

I don't see why not. The conversion uses a piece of equipment with an IR receiver in it. All the conversion does is cut out that receiver and connect the rest of the device to the connectors of the remotes IR emitters. The only question would be if it fits in the case.

Does the IR output still work with your solution?
