I've got 2 DVD changers. My ProntoPro is fairly customized to the point of tweaking, and what I've always wanted to do was download cover art from DVDs as buttons, and create macros to select each DVD, by simply pressing the Cover Art Button.

I figure it will take 5 steps (not including delays) per macro.

My ProntoPro indicates I've used up about 15% of its space. What's the prognosis from the experts on how many I can comfortably fit, without sacrificing too much speed?

Thanks.

I'm in the same situation (but haven't got my prontopro yet). My current 1m pronto has 62% free, although obviously, I don't have any cover art. I worked out it can be done and as soon as the ccfcompiler/decompiler is ready for the pronto pro, I'll be working on it.

I think as long has the images are about 80x100 you should be fine from the maths I did. I was only having 2 titles per panel too.

As long as you save prior versions, just go ahead and do what you want. If, at some point, you run out of memory, you can just reload the last version that worked.

I have 51 dvd's in my changer. i used 6 discs per screen on a lay out with the jacket sizes being 60 X 82. I have a pretty large phone directory and a fairly extensive layout of other devices. This allows me approx. 58% memory remaining (tsu 2000).

I have created a simlar layout with prontopro. I deleted all devices and extra unnecessary screens leaving only the dvd selection area, with all 51 jackets, the dvd control area, and the IR area containing all disc number codes. this required approx. 23% of the avail. memory.

So, for what it is worth, the amount of discs you can do, is going to hinge somewhat on your layout. Although, this will be the more memory intensive area. Because with my other devices added back in on the pro, it only took up another 7% (all was in grey, no color) My dvd control section was in color however.

Hope this mad rambling helps.

The graphics will take up the space, the macros barely matter for memory. I have 80 pages of football logos with six graphics and 12 macros per page times six commands, text titles and macros for 300 disc cd, my old B&W ccf, and my new color ccf with 150 or so quarter sized channel logos and macros and I still have 58% free memory. But each dvd cover art is unique. That will eat up the memory space. Measure size of your remote, copy the page five times and change the graphic to a unique one for every page. Measure your memory again. The still available memory divided by the difference of your two files is how many groups of five you still can fit. One would work, but 3 or 5 gives better sample. You would hate to get 100 pages or so done and then realize they are all going to have to be a little bit smaller. I danced on the edge of a full 1MB rc5000 and it is a real pain when you have to start cutting the biggest coolest graphics to keep the thing working. Let us know how it goes. DVD changer and cover art are next on my wishlist now that I have my ProntoPro.

Nicholas, it isn't Macros that take up memory. It is the cover art bitmaps.

Thanks Peter,

Gee,
Way to make me look verbose there.

Well, I did suspect that the cover art would be the problem . . . but my point is that for each of these separate entries, each will have a separate cover art, and 5 steps.

To be more specific . . . I've right now got 500 DVDs in these beasts. Assume that I'll reach 600.

I can fit 6 cover art images per panel. Since there are two separate changers, each will have 50 panels of such images.

Is there room at the inn? Should we start an over/under on how many I can fit until the Pro gets a lawyer? How many do YOU say I'll fit?

Thanks,

Nick

Measure a few of the panels memory size and multiply it.

See how big a design with one panel of unique images is, then with two panels of unique images. Subtract the difference and multiply by how many panels.
