Hi,
I am planning to buy a Philips Pronto without the docking station, but I was wondering whether, if I bought a docking station in the future, it would come with a rechargable battery included, or would I have to buy that separately? More importantly, do I really need a docking station - how quickly do normal batteries run out?
Thanks,
Chris.

The docking station includes the rechargeable battery pack.
AA batteries can last weeks to months, depending on the amount of use you give the Pronto. If you've had a universal remote before, its about the same.
I bought it only because then I don't have to worry about not having batteries when I need them. That used to happen with my other remote.

By all means, get the dock!!!
In the eyes of some it may be fiscally irresponsible, but it truly leaves you with one less thing in this crazy world you have to think/worry about. I for one want to tune **OUT** worries when I go into couch potatoe mode!
If you do buy one and *think* you may be having problems with it, search this forum for Battery Problems or Docking Station and all your "problems" are well documented and easily taken care of.
Then sit back and enjoy: A) Hours & Hours of easy surfing/listening, or B) Hours & Hours & HOURS of programming & tweaking your new toy **THEN** enjoy hours & hours of easy surfing/listening.

The battery pack come with the charger $$$ it does not make much sense (at that price you can get a lot of batteries) But I agree with Mike and Joel, knowing that the remote will always work is a great plus, plus I have noticed that I don't loose the remote any longer, since it has a resting place (the charger) it keeps on ending up there, before I got the Pronto and charger I would spend more time looking for the remote, then enjoying TV

Isn't it funny how that happens, Anthony? It can't be far from the TV or the couch, but: WHERE THE HELL IS IT???

Only half way to the door? Did you forget why you were headed there, or did you do something to scare your visitor away?

I haven't dropped one or sat on it yet. That, judging by some of the posts, is a concern.

MIKE ;-) How did this thread become about me all of a sudden. This is what happens remote in hand you start towards the door, then you realize it and you leave it on the table / chair in the hall. Answer the door and then (eventually ) go back to watch TV, but where is the remote? But that has not happened since I got the Pronto with charger. I just leave it on the charger, so it is not in my hands when I (or others) go do other things. This message was edited by Anthony on 08/13/01 08:59.05.
