It's been a while since I updated my CCF. I've been thinking about a couple of issues and would like to get the opinions of other users.
First, which text/buttons do you find easier to read... white text on a black background or the opposite? I'd especially like to hear from anyone who converted their CCF from one to the other at some point.
Second, I've noticed that myself and other users of my CCF tend to press more towards the bottom portion of button images. Has anyone else noticed this? I was considering modifying things like my cursor panel to accommodate this. Maybe even adding some additional blank background below the other button images too.

Hey well i like the black butons with the white text. I think that it shows out more.
I have converted mine before. I was using the one that phillups had given for a couple months and then got fed up so i made my own. Thanks to Many people (especialy Mr. Tonks) they have made my ccf most satisfying to me.
Um i use 2 hands to work with my remote (or one hand withthe remote on my lap). but when i rarely use one hand, yeah i do use the bottom right portion of the screen (i use my right hand) is the easiest.
Let me know if you have any other questionaires.

Jon,
You raise another interesting issue. I've optimized some of my panels for use by my right hand(one- handed). I've found that it is easiest to hit buttons that track the arc of my right thumb, pretty much along the top of the screen and down the left-hand side. Lesser used buttons are located towards the bottom right.

Interesting. I agree with Jon. I like the black buttons with white text, even though the white buttons with black text are easier to see in low light (2000).
So, in that sense, I go with the look, even though the Pronto default look [large white buttons, black text] is more practical.
C'mon. It's more important that our friends ooh and ah over the slick look than we be able to see the buttons a bit better, isn't it? How many of you guys bought Corvettes, even though you knew when you did that they'd be in the shop every other week? Same principal.

So whats to stop someone from having both(other than time). Picture a home panel that begins with two buttons, 'Use the Swoopy Mode' and 'Use with Older Eyes Mode' ;-)

I prefer to use a White button with black/grey text or logo's.
As to layout, I can comfortable rely on just the thumbing doing the owrk unless I'm editing MiniDisc titles which is either requires a stylus or long finger nails.

You can do whatever you want! We were just answering the question with our personal opinions. PS What's a "swoopy mode"? This message was edited by Joel Warren on 08/12/01 16:14.55.

Joel,
'Swoopy' is the slick version you show your friends. :)
I'm surprised there have been no comments about my second question. Guess I'm the only one who has problems zeroing in on the button images. I thought for sure there would be some discussion. Don't think I've seen this topic before.

I agree witgh Jon. I took Daniel's graphics/layout and enjoy them. But... I find that while the white on black buttons are easy to see, the smaller 'graphic' buttons are difficult for friends to pick out. (Size does matters with them)
I currently have a 1000 and 2000. I will probably be using the same layout when the 6000 shows up. I antisipate the small graphic buttons to 'pop out' (after adding color) and become usable to others then. Aaron Hughart's Color CCF did highlight some great possibilities though.
I was asked to program a remote for one of my 'older' friends and just had too much trouble creating large buttons while keeping the remote usable. I ended up using a very limmited use large button display for each major device and setting all other controls under sub pannels his wife uses.

Well, doug, since you asked, and speaking just for myself, I can't say I've noticed my self favoring the bottom portions of the buttons particularly. I use the fingernail-touch method, so I tend toward the center.
"Swoopy", huh? Well, never heard that before, but as we say in SoCal: "what-EVER!"
