Anthony - I could not get adequate discrete codes from the manufacturer so I don't think my idea will work.
I wanted to solve the "toggle" problem for video inputs. My Hitachi does not have discrete codes for this so I got an Emerson Video Input Selector online for about $25. Works great with 4 inputs selectable by IR remote. Figured I could have the Pronto learn this and then put it in a macro for DVD, VCR, etc. that would automatically select the right video input.
Pronto refused to learn either directly or through PE. Called the manufacturer and they only have two codes available 0099 and 0111. Don't know how this works with four buttons and certainly doesn't look like any of the hexadecimal codes I have seen on this site. But I am a newbie, soooo, appears my *brilliant* idea wasn't!! Any suggestions other than putting the "toggle" on the Pronto? Thanks.

What model Hitachi do you have? This is what I did with mine (43FDX01B). The normal input cycle is Ant B -> Ant A -> Video 1 -> Video 2 -> Video 3. Entering channel 03 will take you to Ant A unless you are on Ant B, in which case it leaves you on Ant B. So what you do is enter channel 03 (which will take you to Ant A or Ant B) and press input (which will put you on Video 1 if you were on Ant A or put you on Ant A if you were on Ant B). Then enter channel 03 to anchor the TV on Ant A (if you were on Ant A, you'll stay on Ant A and if you were on Video 1, you'll change to Ant A). From there the number input button presses is known to get the TV to a specific input.
It's very convoluted but it's bullet proof. It has never messed up for me.

Hi, Andrea, My Hitachi is a 50EX13KA/BA - the remote(CLU-413UI) has an AVX button that toggles through Video1, Video2 and antenna. Only has those three so I don't think your fix will work? Thanks anyhow.

Does your TV always start on the same input or does it leave you with the Last Input that was selected?

Andrew - The tv stays at the last input that was selected.

Also, I only have two inputs aside from antenna and have satellite, DVD and VCR so I need a selector of some sort. Looks like the promise to my wife of only one remote ain't gonna fly??

Test and see if you hit chan+ (or 03 or some other channel number) if it will always take you back to the antenna input no matter what input you started from. If it does, we can figure out an "anchor" macro.
Maybe you can post in the Home Theater forum here and ask for help on how to deal with not enough inputs on your TV. There has to be some sort of solution that works with a Pronto. When the HTF search comes back online tonight I'll do a search over there and see what I can find.

Larry,
Do a "System Off" macro, which, before it shuts down, sets the input on the one where you want it to be next time you turn the set on. If its already there, it won't hurt. I do that in case my receiver is on something besides VCR when its shut off, so when its turned on, that's where it is, because usually that is the first thing I do.
Also, I have a seprate "system off" in the DVD section for when I shut down after watching a DVD, rather than TV, which returns the TV to the appropriate input for regular [cable] TV before it shuts down.

Andrea - I think we have an "anchor" to work from. And I think I figured out where you and Anthony were going with that while I was in the shower!!
Any entry from 02 to 61 will go to Antenna Input from Video 1 or Video 2. If I really did figure it out, that means we learn the "toggle" code into the Pronto, then it would be one press to go to Video 1 and 2 to go to Video 2 (why does that remind me of Paul Revere?) Then incorporate that into a macro with a Jump so the "DVD" button would jump to the macro that said send "toggle code" once, for VCR, send "toggle code" twice or something like that. Now, being a newbie, I have to learn to do macros and try all this out. Any suggestions would be most welcome and thanks to all so far - don't stop now!!

Well, Larry, that's close to what I said. You should shower more often!
Macros are very easy, not at all like what you expect from other programs where the word "macro" is code for "uh oh!"
Instead of one action on a button, you just program one after the other. If when you run it, the macro doesn't complete, put a delay after the last step that worked. If it still doesn't get past there, make the delay a little longer. A snap.

Joel - you are probably right about the showers - I just reread yours and it said the same thing but differently - sort of what an attorney would do!!
Tomorrow is Holy Macro Day - will let you guys know and thanks again......................

Yes, You were right. I was trying to find out if you had a starting point. Let us know how everything works.

Yup, Larry, you got it. You learn your toggle input code into your Pronto. Let's say the name of that button is input. You also learn (obviously) all your channel numbers into your Pronto. So the macro to switch to your VCR input would look something like:
channel 0 channel 2 input
And your DVD macro would look something like:
channel 0 channel 2 input input
You'll probably need to add some delays between those commands. I generally start with .2 second delays between commands and then work up from there if they don't work.
Let us know if you need any macro help, and Andrew and I will join you in the shower. ;-) (Figuratively)
