I just got my TSU6000 and started my ccf file in
color. After downloading the direct tv channel icons for all 100+ channels and converting them to 256 color
bmp's using MS paint and Coreldraw to make buttons I
have custom buttons for each channel. I was able to fit 16 buttons on a panel so I had to create several panels to accomodate my buttons under the Satellite
device I created. I created panels by categories that
were described on the Directtv site (general, movies,
PPV, sports, etc.). After creating my panels and linking them all seems fine and working until I try to
upload my config back to my ccf file on my computer. I get an error message saying Pronto does not contain a valid config file. The ccf runs fine on the emulator and runs fine in the remote but it wont reupload. I need it to reupload because the remote is having some problems with learning while docked (some commands just work incorrectly, despite repeated attempts). Since my learned commands undocked will get wiped if I update and reupload my ccf, (remember it wont upload, therefore my ccf never gets all my updated IR codes) I realy need this ccf upload to work. After many hours of experimentation I have come to a some conclusions:

1) the ccf will upload back to my computer but only if I keep my panels under my satellite device to 8 panels.
2) I was able to make a copy of the satellite device with the 8 panels to a cable device and reupload worked.
3) I tried deleting other panels in various configs and determined that it is not a panel corruption in my ccf.
4) Since my satellite panels contain about 200 bmps, perhaps the combination of 14 panels and hundreds of bmps in a single device is more than the software can handle.
5) Others have posted about this same error and this must be a bug in the software.

Any comments or help is appreciated.

I have the same issue. I am not able to upload with my current file. However, I found it to not be a data corruption, but something just odd with how it's checking files. I find if I delete *something* from the file -- it doesn't matter what, though it has to be fairly big in total size -- the file will suddenly start uploading fine. I'm guessing it's something with total file size -- number of bitmaps, buttons, panels, etc.

Well, this is certainly nice to know. Thanks.

Daniel Thanks for your response. After testing my file some more I find that if I delete some buttons in my ccf file on the remote then I can upload. I would prefer to have these buttons though (my satellite channel logos). Perhaps if its a file size problem maybe adding more will fix it? Also I made copies of my panels and added them to my cable device but still wont reupload unless I delete some of my buttons from my satellite device and it doesn't seem to matter which ones I delete, just as long as I delete a certain amount (seems like I had to delete about 20 buttons or so). Once I got it to reupload again after deleting the 20 buttons, as soon as I add a single new button it wont upload so I seem to have 'maxed' out the device.

After contacting Jack at Prontoedit.com about my uploading problem I received this reply:

Jim,

Your file looks really good and I have been able to duplicate your problem, so, I've pasted your notes
along with mine and sent them with your CCF across the water for engineering to have a look.
I'll let you know what I hear back.

Cheers,

Jack

I am encouraged by the prompt response from Jack and I hope the engineers overseas are just as responsive.

What might help others, I managed to get all my ccf's working upload and download but I was on a roll and did not document how I got there.
I started by making all my panel that could be scrolled to as hidden , next I removed my timer screen,
named all my bitmap buttons, went through all my panels and confirmed font sizes.(thats when I realized I had font problems) there were more but they escape me right now.
Hope this helps
kabble ?

Got the thing in its initial customized fashion--that took about 25-30 hours since Friday afternoon--and now it won't upload at all.

Since Daniel's talking about deleting portions of the file in order to make it upload, I guess this means back to the instruction manual to figure out how to manually delete things. But it may be in good enough shape that I can avoid that.

The funny thing is that, even though I can download the very same file into the ProntoPro, when I try and upload it back--just to see if it worked--it didn't. You would think that what goes downstream should also go up, no?

Ultimately, this is going to be a problem, and there's going to have to be a fix. For the moment, however, you'll still need forged-iron forceps to get it out of my hands.

Nick,
Sorry to hear you are having the same probs as me and Daniel, and perhaps others as well. My file is only 1.5 megs and downloads just fine as well. It will not upload however unless I nuke about 20-30 icons and then it uploads. Problem is that I cant add anymore to it. I contacted Phillips who told me to contact Jack at Prontoedit.com. Jack requested my ccf so I gave it to him and he duplicated my problem. He told me this is the first time he has seen this problem so he sent it to the engineers for evaluation, and I presume they are working on a patch. My suggestion is to go to the Prontoedit.com site and email the webmaster (Jack). Phillips told me he is in charge of the Prontoedit program and any gliches. If you and others bring matters to his attention, chances are much better of getting these bugs worked out faster. He told me they have never had any problems like this before, so I can only assume that other bugs may be new to them as well. I suggest everyone to send Jack any problems as they are found, it seems we are all 'beta' testers and should respond with our findings. Good luck.

This was before I put a whole heck of a lot more into it. Now I'm having the same above problems.

I was reminded of this thread when I had this whimsical thought the other day, that perhaps my ProntoPro had decided it was time to upload again. On attempting it, I learned it was still refusing.

I then did what I'd previously been advised to do, i.e., e-mailed Jack Schultz. Below is his reply on August 24, 2001.

"Nick,

I can fully appreciate your frustration and assure you that engineering
is aware of the problem and is working on resolution. I am hoping (this
is me speaking) that they will have a patch before CEDIA (9/8/01) but we
shall see.
Watch the official site www.pronto.philips.com and check for a new
version. They generally alert me when an update occurs but sometimes a
day or two after it's posted.
I have also forwarded them your CCF as a test for the patch before
release.

Best Regards,

Jack Schultz"

There you are. This uploading thing is becoming a pain for lots of reasons.

Nick

I wonder if this is related to the problem one or two people had where really large lists of discs with tracks created via Super-Nudelist were causing problems with the remote itself?

(Not the same as the issue with ProntoEdit running out of stack space when trying to load similar lists.)

I seem to notice this problem with merging old B&W CCF's into Pronto Pro Edit, especially the macro's. I was doing fine, and continue to have no problems as long as I do not attempt to work with old B&W ccf's.

There is a major disconnect with old files, it seems that if you open a old ccf, and just save it again, it will change it to the new format, without converting it. If you then merge this non-converted but 'Pronto Pro' ccf, it does strange things.

Seems to be pretty consistent, I've tested this a few times.

My file was costructed from scratch using only prontoedit software. The problem is that I have an icon for each direct tv channel. The software has problems recognizing that many icons. My file is 1.17 megs in size.

I have not been so successful as to even have it upload into proedit once. Perhaps the black and white is the real key and not the file size. I have deleted everything from the pro except the panel with the learned buttons that I needed to import but to no avail. I'll try with something completely new and let you know

OK so if I create a new ccf from scratch in pro edit everything seems to work just fine. Of course this is only a single device with two panels totalling 72 custom buttons. Maybe with channel logos and and device icons it will act differently but I've been playing with this for too long today
