Well Andy, I never eliminated the Autoplay but used the following which in my case worked flawlessly. The Sony will Autoplay the last disc played in the previous session if you leave the power in standby mode on the CX860. However, if you turn the power to the CX860 completely off autoplay will always play disc 1. So in this mode we have a necessary step resolved, we have to know what the CX860 is going to do next. Since it will now autoplay disc 1 we will put a disc in the disk 1 slot that has no autoplay feature imbedded in the software. In my case an old Ella Fitzgerald CD worked great. The changer still loads disc 1 at startup but it does not play, it merely pauses and waits for a command. I then use the pronto to enter a command that loads the wanted disc. I do lose slot 1 but the aggravation eliminated is worth it. Bill Bates

Andy,
I'm not 100% sure how. But I don't have a problem with it. The only time it will autoplay for me is when i take out a dvd is was playing (e.g. easyplay) and then the next time I turn it on it will autoplay.
Try this, the next time you are don with the dvd, just turn the unit off rather than stopping the dvd.
I'm at work right now. When I go home tonight, I'll look into it, and see what I can come up with and let you know tomorrow.

Greg,
That Kenwood is pretty PHAT!!!!! I was quite impressed. The $1500 price tag is a little breat-taking, but WOW, what a player!

Andy,
Also, not sure if this has any effect or not, but when I shut down, I use the All Sony Off command to turn all my components off.
May or may not effect it.

I have the 870D. With the Pronto and Supernudelist is is great !. To get around the autoplay my pronto always puts the unit in standby mode when I move from the DVD Device to DDS or TV.

It is official.
The "All Sony Off" command disables the autoplay the next time you turn it on.

Wade: The Kenwood is already on the internet at CrazyEddie's (backordered - coming soon) at $1099.00. That's already taking a good cut out of MSRP. But, for $1099, it is PHAT!!! You're getting a lot! This message was edited by GregoriusM on 08/09/01 15:34.44.

I've had all the Sonys (the 200 disc, and each of the 300 discs), as well as the Pioneer DV-F727. Right now, I 've got the Pioneer DV-F727 and the Sony DVP-CX870. Some observations:
1. The Pioneer has a slightly sharper picture. Each are excellent in this respect, but the Pioneer prevails.
2. The Pioneer has a much better user interface. You can zip through the menus like water, whereas the Sony's first generation player and its current versions retain the same clunky Disc Explorer system.
3. The "flip" feature on the new Sonys is nice, but it's really unusual that it'll get used.
3. The Sonys appear to have better build quality.
4. The Sonys have simultaneously active video outputs (for those of us who like to a/b the differences between component, and s-video). The Pioneer has a switch on the back which requires you to choose your output.
Other than the Sony and this new Kenwood, everything in the 300+1 changer market is a rebadged Pioneer. Onkyo did some tinkering with the units to permit a true digital audio daisy chain, but that was it.
I will probably buy another Pioneer when I get to 600 discs. I use an outboard processor, the Faroudja NR at 720p, so I have no interest in progressive scan. However, if I did not use the processor, then I would have to run to the Kenwood. If you are a fan of changers--and I'm the Number One Fan of changers--the Kenwood has more promise than any of them. I haven't seen anything yet about performance, other than its specs.
Leaving the Kenwood aside, I favor the Pioneer. Moreover, unless you have some use for that R232 port, do not buy the Elite version. Other than some differences which no one seems to use, they command about $300 more per unit.
You can pick up the DV-F727 for under $500. It's really a great player.
