MTB,

Discovered I WAS doing things correctly - tried it with another remote and it learned through the Pronto almost instantly. I don't know why it won't learn from the remote I want it to but I have contacted the company and maybe that will help - will keep you posted. This is an unusual "device" so I cannot find any codes anywhere.

See you guys are all lucky because you get to enjoy your Prontos. For me - I work hard on them, hate them, make them beautiful, then love them - then I have to give them away to the customers!

I hate Prontos!!!

Maybe if I had my own then it would be worth all the time and effort put into one but struggling to make one for someone else just doesn't do it for me. (Even though my "struggling" has turned more into... cut-copy-paste)

My advice: SAVE EVERY TEN MINUTES WHEN EDITING OR BUILDING YOUR PRONTO!!!

I've lost countless hours because of "illegal operations." These will be most common if you had Windows 95 and just did the upgrade to 98.

Don't let this post discourage you at all! Take your time, make it perfect then enjoy all the times you get to sit down using your one remote instead of scrambling around like me looking for the seperate remotes! :)

Best of luck!

Anthony - I don't want to divulge this particular device because I want to perfect a workaround for a problem I have that is shared by some on the Forum. And then everyone will visualize me as brilliant as Joel! If I don't succeed in getting the discrete codes, then I obviously am not too brilliant and will have to divulge the device and take advantage of those that *are* brilliant!! I tried everything in the "tips" and it still won't learn. Thanks

Larry H,

Let me guess, the 'Devise' is an ntl/Pace Digital TV Set Top Box ?

By god... I think he's got it!

Thanks to everyone for their help - even though we went off topic on a couple of ocassions!

I will be submitting my set up, not because it's fantastic (it's a copy of Daniel Tonk's - thanks Daniel) but because it includes ir codes not yet submitted to the databse.

Anyway, I've learnt enogh to to a basic set up with "pretty" buttons.

You see, Larry? That's the idea of this forum--all of us contributing together to come up with stuff. someone may already have the workaround you're struggling with.

Vixie: No wonder you hate Pronto. I can't imagine anything more frustrating than programming Prontos and then never using one. Most of us who are not in the business of programming get our greatest satisfaction in seeing all that work come to fruition. I'm still amazed and in awe every time I push a button that does things the regular remote doesn't come near (like macros).

Yeah. I was planning on buying a color pronto for myself and then enjoying it but I bought some new kitties instead. (Could have bought 10 color prontos for the price of these babies!!)

*shrugs* oh well. I don't watch any tv anyways and I have my stereo remote - which works fine. :)

So, then, Erin, how exactly did you find your way to this forum? Not that I'm complaining, mind you, just curious.

ummmm....I work as a programmer?! :) Even though I don't have one of my own I've programed enough of them to hate 'em. :)

I always check out this forum though... just to keep up on whats new. Just so I won't fall behind. ;)

I too am a newbie to all this. I only got my pronto on Tues, but spent the previous weekend setting up the CCF File. It really is very easy to get this to work. What I did was first just to get things working was to go and find all my devices from ones created by other people. When u download one of them into prontoedit, delete all the ones u dont need and save it as your own. Simply then merge all the others, again deleting as u go, so when you've finished u have just your devices. U will have to reassign some icons to jump to the new pages on the home page, but just use trial and error.

Cheers
