looking for a trade. I have a perfect condition Harmon Kardon Take Control that I am not using and would like to make an even trade for a Pronto.
Please contact me.

Thank you,
Tony

This is probably not the best place to post a sales message full stop! Let alone for a product widely hailed as 'pants' when compared to a Pronto!! Best of luck to you but I'd be amazed if anyone took you up on the offer!

I thought I was king of the obscure remarks, but I'm not up on my obscure British slang, Laurie. What's that mean?

Cultural exchange: one of the fringe benefits of this site!

ttjjpp:

I have both the Pronto and TC1000. Your request for an even trade is not so out of line unless someone paid full price for the Pronto. The value of each is about $150 to $200 depending on how good a negotiator/buyer you are. The Pronto has more flexibility with graphics, but that's about it. The Pronto has a marginal LCD screen for brightness just like the TC1000. By changing the TC1000 to a 9volt configuration the screen is actually brighter than the Pronto. The IR range of a Pronto is better unless you change out the TC1000 with some Radio Shack replacements. You can do both of these mods to the TC1000 for about $5.00. Programming on the TC1000 is a lot easier and intuitive. I use them both all the time - The Pronto for the Family Room setup and the TC1000 for the Master Bedroom setup.

Is that UK-speak for underpants, as in "I really took it in the underpants when I bought this thing from that wanker?"...

Dave,

That's pretty much the way I have it set up. I originally had the TC1000 - I'm just not able to dump it on anyone's lap - anyone who sees my Pronto immediately laughs wildly at my poor attempts to sell off my H/K TC1000 :(

anyway, ttjjpp - it would probably be a more even trade if you added a couple of hundred bucks to your deal...

Well, pants is pants because of underpants, that's true, but in this context it just means "the worst".

Hey, you gotta give the guy a lot of credit for trying! Who knows? He may have already done the deal! Someone just might be looking to Take Control of their lives!

I am a former HK owner, and current proud owner of a PRONTO. The only person who should make an even swap of Pronto for HK is someone who is unable or unwilling to learn to use PRONTOEDIT. The HK software is definitely much easier to learn how to use, though less powerful. Other than this, the HK is inferior.

Re use of the IR LCD from Radio Shack: this partly alleviates the weakness of the IR signal, but it still lacks the range of the standard PRONTO. This was always a pain for me.

The HK lacks the ability to input IR codes directly, that we PRONTO owners take for granted. Forget about discretes.

I forgot one other thing in favor of the HK: it was a better learner. My pronto is a bit persnickity about learning codes from another remote. The FAQ on this site has a lot of helpful tricks that I have had to use. I never had to work so hard with the HK.

Hey, Now guys don't be so harsh on they guy. tt, I'll be happy to trade my Rc5000i for your TC1000. Even trade. Also as part of an added bonus the rc5000i comes in a "Ready to Assemble form" The whole package comes in about 25 pieces, and "some" assembly is required. It's in so many peices that you could say "I dropped it off of my 4'th story deck onto a concrete walkway! and now I can't wait to put it back together again!"
