My sister just accidentally pressed a little too hard and cracked the screen of my RC5000i. Great.
I called my dealer and he says it's about a 4-6 week turnaround for service via the normal Marantz channels. One evening without the remote will be bad enough, let alone a month. Our home theatre isn't exactly trivial to operate (motorized screen, projector, receiver, DVD jukebox, etc) so the RC5000i has been a godsend in terms of the wife-acceptance-factor.
I called the 800 number for Marantz and the guy who handles RC5000 service is away until Monday.
I called the number posted here for Philips and according to the lady at the other end of the phone, they *will* repair a Marantz unit.
Has anyone ever sent an RC5000(i) to Philips' San Jose service center? If so, did everything work out OK?
Has anyone from Canada ever had a Pronto/RC5000 repaired, and if so, how long was the wait?
Thanks in advance, Eric

Where did you buy the remote from, and how long have you had it for?
Back in the UK, you could demand (under the Sale of Goods Act) a replacement from your dealer. The quality of the product was not of a reasonable standard.
Explain to your dealer the problem and ask if he would offer a loaner or straight swap? It may just work.

I bought it last October, so I'd probably be pushing it to try to get a swap from the dealer. A loaner would be nice, but if the 5-7 day turnaround time is for real then we'll survive without it. It means that I'm probably the only one in the house who knows how to switch inputs on the home theatre, though that's not the end of the world for a week or two either. We have a couple of big tube TVs elsewhere in the house so it's not like we'll go without.

Eric,
Still, for such an expensive item, you would expect it to last at least a year of reasonable use. That's how I would word it with your dealer.
I would at least try for a loaner, with a big hopefull smile.
Good luck,
Guy
