I just got a new job as a programmer. With this job I will be using the Phillips Pronto. I have a few questions reguarding the IR Database in this program.
The major question being:
Each item of equipment (a tv for example) has it's own product code, in the database for the Pronto it assigns a new code for that model (ie a Sony TV becaomes Sony1 or Sony12) is there a list somewhere that merges the actual codes with the proto codes or how do I get around that road block.

If someone would please get back to me that would be great. You can either e-mail it or message back.

Thank you.

Which IR database are you talking about? The one that comes inbuilt in the Pronto 2000 or the Access database that ships with ProntoEdit 1.05 and earlier.

If you are referring to the Access database, support for this has been dropped by Philips with ProntoEdit V2 onwards. I wouldn't try to go anywhere near it.

I am talking about the one that comes built in with the Prontoedit.

From what I have researched, no one else seems to have the same problem as I do with the software. Am I just not seeing it clearly?

Would there be a way you (or someone) could help me...maybe talk me through the database because it is making zero sense to me.

My MSN name is [email protected] and IM is Pretty Vixie (with a space between the words). If someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you.

Which version of ProntoEdit?

What is the actual problem?

The manual says version 1.02 from October 1999.

The problem is that in the IR Database it has you pick the devise, the maker and then the model number. It seems simple but the model numbers are crazy. Instead of an actual Sony model number it says like Sony1 or Sony12. I can't figure out where they get those numbers or names from.

How am I supposed to (through the program) assign ir codes if I can't figure out the correct model number?

Sounds like you have ProntoEdit V2.0. So you have the wrong manual. The correct manual will be on the CD that came with the Pronto.

When you see Sony1 to Sony12, this means that over the years Sony has used 12 different types of codes for controlling their TVs. You need to experiment until you find the codeset that works with your TV.

Unfortunately, there is no list that says which codeset is used with which model TV. Any such list would be absolutely enormous and would be out of date the moment it was published.

I just got the 2000, and I have 2 basic questions. In trying to get the Pronto to manually "learn" from my old remotes in "learn mode, it learns some, but not all, of the buttons for certain devices. Is there a workaround for this, and can I do it with ProntoEdit (which I have not yet tried)? The Pronto is just too much bucks not to replace ALL functions of ALL remotes.

Second, in "Home" and "Device" mode, when I press a device, it shuts it off (if its on) or vice-versa, instead of just going to that device's display panel. How can I correct this?

1/ It should learn all buttons (at least those that transmit IR). There is a section in the FAQ on tips for learning.

2/ There is a section in the FAQ on dealing with this - from memory, something like "Why does my TV turn off when I change device?"

3/ You should have posted a new thread, as this is not related to this thread's topic, and you not get many people reading it.
