I just got a digital cable box so I need to re-program my remote. I had 2 button cable box which I programmed each manually...(Buttons for Channels)
How do I enter in the IR code using Proedit?
I guess I need a step by step if anyone can help.
Please email me.
Thank you,

Aaron

Your Pronto must be connected to your computer and you should have the remote for the three button cable box there as well.

1 - Open Pronto Edit
2 - Double click the button you want to program.
3 - Click on the Action tab.
4 - Click Set IR
5 - Select Learn IR

At this point you press the corrosponding button you wish the Pronto to Learn. ie. Press the Cable remote's power button if you are designating the Pronto's button to control the units power.

Wait for the beep and a prompt stating that the Pronto has learned the IR command and move on to the next button repeating these steps.

Oh, and make sure that you have the cable box remote's infared facing the Pronto's learning eye.

You might also want to read how to optomize memory in the FAQ section. [Link: remotecentral.com]

Surprisingly step by step instructions for learning codes through Pronto edit aren't in the FAQ's section.

it usually just takes 2 numbers

Ok.
I think I got it... I gotta try it when I get home tonight.

I'll hook up the remote to Proedit and program 3 ir codes to each cable channel icons by doing;

learn (channel 2)
delay
learn (channel 4)
delay
learn (enter)

I'll give this a shot.

Aaron, that is not the best way to do it.

Create a panel and put buttons on it for each digit plus Enter. Learn each of codes for each of the buttons.

Then in the panel where you are programming your 3 digit buttons, use Aliases i.e.

alias to 2 button on first panel
delay
alias to 4 button on first panel
delay
alias to Enter button on first panel

Doing it this way, you only have to learn each digit once. You also save lots of memory.

Also, Alexis suggested you learn your IR Codes in ProntoEdit. This is not recommended, as you often don't get the best learned codes. For some people, it even crashes ProntoEdit. Learn your codes directly on your Pronto.

Thanks Peter. You are right. My prontoedit crashed like crazy. I thought something was wrong with my computer.
I will give this a try. Thanks.

Peter:

Aaron's message stated that he wanted learn IR codes using ProntoEdit. I was showing him how to learn the codes and and then use Alias. I never found instructions on how to learn IR codes directly tbrough the ProntoEdit software and thus found it initially confusing. But yes, I also suggest setting up buttons first using ProntoEdit then learning codes through the Pronto itself to avoid program crashing.

I didn't notice that in the initial post. It is very easy to notice what is said in a response without checking the initial question.
