If you check the IR database on ProntoProEdit you will notice that are lots of discrete codes for almost all brands and models. Do you believe a ProntoPro will be able to teach to an old TS-1000? If so, the discrete IR codes section of this site would be higly improved.

The only drawback on your proposal is... Who will keep two prontos at home to check it out?

Any CCFs created for the Pronto Pro are backwards compatible, you could save the CCF, and put it on your TS-1000. You can also take CCFs from the TS1000 and put them on your Pronto Pro.

Marcos: It should be possible, but it is a lot of work.
d272337: all that is needed is for someone to have both for a limited time.
Dustin: When you save it in a version that the TS-1000 can understand either 1) the codes will be useless 2) (most probable) the codes are erased.
Don't forget that the UDB codes are only pointers (addresses) to the internal memory and not actual IR codes.

Anthony, you are correct... It would be a hard work to setup two desktops, two prontos and learn code by code. In fact, it would be a lot easier if Philips Corporation paste the discrete codes (in hex) on remotecentral.

Marcos, are you sure there are lots of discrete codes in the database that are not available on the original remotes? From what I understand it only contains the codes from the original remotes, and would only contain a handful of additional codes.
Also, if there are such codes, Philips does not have the right to publish them. They licensed the database from another company.

Peter, please check the actual version of ProntoProEdit, it is fully loaded with codes, some are discrete others not. In fact, the power buttons grabbed my attention... But, since we don’t have a "real" ProntoPro to check the codes, it is hard to assume they will work properly. You will be able to download the PPE at: [Link: remotecentral.com]

Anthony: Why would they be erased, Did I miss something in his question, or do I have the wrong Idea?

The hex code used by the 2000 and 6000 is different then the others (1000, 890, 940, 5000) there was an extra word added at the beginning. When you save as old version does PE remove the whole string if it is a UDB code or does it get rid of the first word, I don't know. But even if it leaves it, it is still useless since the UDB does not exist in the others. (If you use the RAVedit to add a Yamaha code, it will not work in a Pronto because the Yamaha codes only exist in the RAV2000 and not in the Pronto

Don't forget the database was licensed from UEI, who makes One For All remotes -- which as you know are loaded with "advanced codes". Although there are listings for these entries, it doesn't mean they're valid or will do anything.
For instance, Toshiba TVs show discrete power commands -- which simply do not exist.

Anthony, the 2000 adds the device, brand, codeset and command at the start of each UDB code. These are stripped off when converted to 1.05 format. If reopened in PE V2, these are all set to 0. However, as PE sees zeroes, it can no longer tell you what the device, brand etc is. However, my understanding is that the code still works.

Peter: the original post was: ----Any CCFs created for the Pronto Pro are backwards compatible, ----you could save the CCF, and put it on your TS-1000,
all I wanted to say was that it will not work on a TS-1000.
