Some new features in RAVedit:

You can enter a Yamaha code when creating an IR action. The Yamaha codes are published on the Yamaha web site.

You can select a different gallery from the Tools menu.

There is a nice new feature for replacing all occurences of a bitmap within a CCF with another bitmap. (From Tools select Modify Bitmaps)

As it has different hard buttons, these have different headings in System and Device properties.

Weird one - can't change the home icon any more (unless it has been moved).

Still can't use left and right buttons in macro groups.

3 formats for Save As - RAV 2000, No Database, No Timer and Beeps.

Some new bits I don't yet understand. From File menu, Pack and Go. From Tools menu, Make .EXE.

You do not need to set Developer=1 to insert hex codes.

But the GIANT change is that it no longer uses an .ini file. Everything is done in the REGISTRY. Daniel's little program will have to be modified to update teh registry!!!

The size is a registry entry called Yamaha_Size but its value is only 444. Why is this so small?

Pack and Go and Make .EXE appear to do the same thing.

It creates an EXE file out of a CCF. When you execute the EXE, the CCF is downloaded to a connected RAV. It looks like it is intended for dealers who custom build CCFs to send them to their clients. The clients can then download it to their RAV without having to have RAVedit installed.

I notice that pasting a discrete code does not result in a blank name any more.

However, you cannot change the name of an IR code any more. (Interesting way of fixing the bug where any change was lost).

I have checked out the Default.CCF that came with RAVedit for any differences (using CCF Explorer). Apart from picking up a bug in CCF Explorer, I could not see any differences at all.

The version codes are 6.1.64 which is the same as ProntoEdit V2. [V1.05 is 2.1.64 and RC5000 Setup is 0.1.64]. Obviously the first field is a binary code indicationg functionality - 2 means Beeps & Timers, 4 means UDB.

So I cannot see any reason why ProntoEdit V2 users should not be able to use RAVedit to edit their CCFs. Though they won't be able to change their Home icons, or set RC5/6 codes - you still have to use ProntoEdit V2 to do that. However, you will be able to get a name on your discrete codes.

The next question is whether RAVedit will download/upload to a Pronto. I haven't tried that yet!

However, you won't be able to get a "useful" code name. :-)

It seems that the size of the UDB is dramatically bigger in the RAV. The file used by RAVedit is 647kb compared with 355kb by ProntoEdit V2.

The UDB takes up 444kb (1404kb - 960kb) in the Pronto 2000 and 960kb(1404kb - 444kb) in the RAV.

[Though I wonder if someone made a mistake. It just seems a big coincidence that one has a UDB size of 444 abd free spave of 960 and the other has the same numbers swapped around.]

And one thing they managed to get right - the firmware is included in the kit. The update program is 1441 kb compared to 1167kb for the Pronto 2000 (274kb bigger).

The database does seem different -- mode code sets. But that much bigger?

I'm not sure if this belongs in the same thread since you guys are way, way way advanced but, nevertheless, as a brand new user of the tsu2000 with next to no programming skills, should I use ProntoEdit or Ravedit? Thanks in advance

You can switch back and forth between the two on the same CCF. You will need to use ProntoEdit whenever you want to select a code from the internal database or select an RC5/6 code, but you can still go back to RAVedit later.

Is it the same case for us original pronto users?
