Seriously... I can't seem to comprehend what they mean when they talk about aliasing a button or whatever. I've tried to read the manuals, but I still am confused. They describe it's use using other terms I'm not familiar with, so it still makes no sense!!
I know this may be stupid, but could someone please explain it or the concept to me?

boy are you gonna get flamed for this one! anyway, i'll try to explain it for ya: it's like a shortcut to a program on your computer. you know how you have...say internet explorer somewhere on your computer? and it's like multi-MBs? well, you have it in the program files folder, the startup folder, the desktop etc, etc...you don't want mult-MB sized copies of the same program in all those location, so you have its shortcut. if you've ever noticed, the shortcut is only 1kb. well, for the pronto you have ir codes that i guess can be over 1kb or whatever file size and it's most likely that you need them displayed as a particular button numerous times in your configuration. well, instead of having multiple copies of the larger, original, ir code file, you just have to alias that code. get it? understand now? i'm in the same boat on other details that are covered in the holy-FAQs. some things are not explained in a way that every single person can understand.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!! I think I understand it now. I can consider it a sort of "LINK" to the original command stored on the control. That would make sense to me, let me re-read the instructions and see if they make more sense now!!
FLAME AWAY!!!!!! (THANK YOU) (why didn't they call it a LINK for crying out loud?)
I want to create my system using both Setup and ProntoEdit, but man it sure is cryptic! I want to to this BEFORE I buy it. RB

Raymond,
Also, remember that the link (Alias), refers to the Action list of that particular button.

i did the same thing you're doing i think. i had prontoedit and my configuration for all my equipment 6 months before i got the pronto. i was actually going to get a pronto pro, but the price was too high and i probably wouldn't be able to get everything out of it that might be possible due to my total lack of programming ability... p.s. what i meant was that those who ask "newbie" questions here tend to be flamed for not reading the FAQs well enough, not that i thought your question was stupid or something. i didn't quite understand the alias thing at first either. it also helps a bit in understanding some things when you get the actual remote. wait, are you just using prontoedit by itself or are you borrowing a pronto? i don't understand what you mean by, "I want to to this BEFORE I buy it."

I printed off the FAQ and keep it in a little binder. I find it easier then scrolling the screen to locate an answer to a common question. I'm more inclined to pick up my binder and look for an answer then reading the FAQ site.
Just me I guess.
