OK, I've had the Marantz for less than a week and have downloaded and programmed with Setup, no probelms.

Question -
Why isn't it possible to just download the remote control alone?

Although it's interesting to see other people's work, to start with I just wanted a duplication of the complete remote control - preferably coded not learnt, in the same layout. (Slight lie, the discrete off/on's etc are very useful.)

I'll be uploading these simple remotes to the archive soon (no EchoStar AD3000IP - terrible!) and this is the format I'll use.

No other remotes, no clever icons (simple black/grey buttons, not even with the highlighting).

Making up the (Macro) screens just aliases these but you can ALWAYS use these (Device) remotes and it's soooo much more obvious when first starting out!

I LOVE this toy, it's given me back a horizontal surface now that the 8 or so remotes have gone and the quick menus I've programmed REALLY focus on what are base features. (Hands up whoever uses random play, for example, on a CD regularly?)

Thnaks to RemoteCentral too. Wouldn't be half as much fun/use without this site.

Its just a style thing. My guess is that people with a programming background do as you suggest (at least some of the CCFs here do) and use hidden panels containing the IR codes on non-descript looking buttons. The "physical" buttons on pretty panels then get aliased to the hidden panel buttons.

Personally I name the device generically, eg "DVD", and then have a hidden panel named by make/model, eg "Sony DVP-725D". All IR codes are on the hidden panel and all visible panels simply alias to them. This has the added benefit of being able to easily differentiate between the codes of both your VCRs when aliasing a macro. ;)

Other people just insert the codes directly into the buttons on their visible panels. This makes me nervous.

At the end of the day you can only program your Pronto in a style that makes you comfortable. If you upload your codes for others to use then maybe it'll rub off on them. Thats what I plan to do when I've fully completed my CCF. ;)
